My System Specs

Default [New build Project] folding and file server

howdy everyone

got a new build going on (well i hope so depending on the next few weeks financing plan)

i am basicly building a boinc seti@home cuda(and others) farm witch will double as a file server(mostly for backup)

i will be recycling my GTX 275 witch is getting retired this week from my current system(for dual 460's in sli)

ive considering trying the AMD 1055T for cpu price point being the key here, trying to keep it as low as possible.

Case : Fractal Design Define R3 Titanium
CPU : AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 6 core
Video : Evga GTX 275 SC
HDD : WD blacks 1tb (couple of them)

The rest is still up in the air :

mobo : Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 AMD870
Ram : OCZ OCZ3G1333LV4GK 4GB DDR3 2X2GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10666 CL-9
PSU : ?

as for PSU id like a modular one but not too expensive was looking at the XFX 650W XXX Edition or the Corsair HX650W, there in my 125$ limit atm.

what do you guys think? AMD X6 with a gtx 275?

looking good. some may tell you to get gskill ram wise.

but if youre looking to build a ppd monster, intel would be the way, close to twice as expensive, i reckon.

Yeah for F@H, definitely go with Intel. A i5 750/i7 870 with a Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2/ H55-USB3 with G Skill, Mushkin, Corsair or Patroit ram with an HX650 like u suggested would be a sweet rig!

yeah, don't have the cash for the i7 route, unless an i5 can put out more then the X6.

not sure if all do some actual Folding, going to use it to resume my Boinc, Einstein@home crunching and seti, never really tryed the Folding route, but ive been wanting to try it, might use this build to try it see how it goes.

yeah am currently using the gskill in my build, id probably get a set of G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL9, the ocz was on sale and 10$ cheaper not a big deal.

very interesting question. i think that the hexa core will beat the quad core intel, since no hyperthreading involved.

Looks like a good build for crunching.

The hexacore would probably be better than an i5 for Boinc as it's all about how many WU's you can crunch at the same time.

If you're thinking of trying Folding the GTX 275 (The 460's would be better) is a good place to start, be warned it's as addicting as any Boinc project and there is a lot more competition...

If you are going to get back into Einstein@Home you could start a Team for us, or I would be glad to. I would probably join you there as I'm always lookig for something new.

Thats some nice work you're doing for our Rosetta and Seti Teams. I just wish Seti wasn't so hard to get work from lately, haven't been able to get anything for the last couple of days and of course tomorrow their regular downtime starts.

Good luck with the build...

my current system is doing some seti and rosetta crunching, i5 750 with 275(waiting on the 460 to get here)

i gave my second system to my brother so am down 1 PC, my numbers went down witch is the reason for this build ahah.

yeah lately seti as been suffering allot, got 4-5 days buffer and still run out of WU for my GPU often.

i was planing on using this build for Einstein@Home and seti (if theres WU available) or ill find something else that can use the GPU.

the X6 still looking good, gona get the cpu and mobo last(or if a great deals come forth)

almost forgot, i need to good cooler aswell, would the hyper 212+ be good enough on the X6? (current have 1 on my i5 and like it so far)

anyone one board known to offer up some better OC on the x6?

The 1090T and i7 750 clocked at 4Ghz, will yeild approx the same PPD. I assume the 1055T would be close.

I'm not a huge fan of OCZ ram anymore - after 2-3 bad sets I swore them off. I have read on other forums that some gskill sets have issues with AMDs 790/890 boards.. not certain about the board you are looking at in particular though.
I'd probably go Corsair or Mushkin for an AMD build, but to each his own.

As for PSU, i'd probably grab something in the 5-600W range, whatever is on sale at NCIX or whatever retailer you use.
I use a OCZ Modxtream 700W in my backup fileserver at home, that I picked up from NCIX on the cheap ($35 after MIR)

Received the R3 today, Very nice little Case,

i am thinking of ordering a Corsair HX750W and a Hyper 212+(with dual R4 fans) should be good enough for the build i think. weather i go 1156 or X6, price point on the CPU is max 250 with 200 on the motherboard

been pondering the idear of getting a II X6 1090T & MSI 890FXA-GD70 890FX ATX DDR3 CrossFire Motherboard would cost around 460$ + tax and shipping witch is over my budget but soo tempting lol

its ither that or a I5 760 and go with a 1156 Board for around 390$
