Default Psuedo-new build

Hello there fellow Canucks,

Well, its been about two years since I've build my gaming rig, and I think its time for a proper upgrade. I've been doing peace-meal upgrades as I've come into some money. I started off with:

Motherboard: GA-MA790XT-UD4P
Processor: Phenom X3 720 BE
GPU: EAH4870 1GB DK
RAM: G*SKILL 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 4GB
Case: Antec 600
PSU: Corsair TX750W
CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212+
HDD: 640GB WD 7200RPM

Over the past two years I've managed to get:

New case: Coolermaster HAF932
New SSD: OCZ Vertex 60GB

The case is to die for! I love all the extra space; and the SSD well, it's an SSD. It's fast, its smexy but its small. I have the WD640GB for the majority of my games, and the SSD for the OS and for SC2 and some other lucky games.

Now, I've been reading reviews here and elsewhere, watching Linus's YouTube videos and doing a lot of digging and I've come up with the following list of parts:

New motherboard: ASUS P6X58D-E X58
New CPU: Intel Core i7 930
New RAM: G.SKILL F3-12800CL9T
New GPU(s):MSI GeForce GTX 460 in Dual-SLI
New storage drive:Western Digital WD20EARS
New monitor:ASUS VH242H

So basically, gutting the whole system. The only parts from my old system I'm keeping are the CPU cooler, the case and the PSU. I plan on getting another Antec case, a cheap cooler and another 750W CPU and slapping together a second build for my GF and her family, but that is yet to be seen.

Any comments on the parts? I'm still a ways yet from pulling the trigger (gotta love being broke!); but I'm pretty confident in my choices. Hopefully over the next couple weeks prices will drop and I can get everything at a discount >.>

As always, thanks for the help, its much-o appreciated!

You've done your homework, so your good to go

One suggestion though, keep the TX750 in the current setup and get either a AX or HX modular unit for easier cable management. The main difference between those 2 is that the AX series is gold rated in power efficiency, so 90+ over the HX's 80+ rating.

Good luck with your build

I think you are good to go on the build, only cnocider a little something. The asus screen are cheap but the image quality is not that good, I would look at the 2494 from samsung if you want a better image. Few month ago we were selling the Asus at my job but we stop because people were complaning about color and image quality. For the other part, go ahead!

I'm in total agreement with the others. The components list is great, and the suggestions for tweaking your choices are imho excellent.
Good luck with your build and enjoy the new system. The gf and her family are getting a good system as well.
