Default Dual Core to Quad, makes sense?

how beneficial would it be for me to go from dual to quad....

I have been looking at LGA775 Quad core Cpus (Q9450, 550, 650 and their Xeon counterparts). Seing as the CPus usually go for 250$ or so, would it make sense for me to upgrade or would it be better to wait and completely overhaul the Pc next year?

I currently have a
Dfi DK LP T2Rs with a Xeon E3110 (3ghz) dual core cpu
Musking Redline Pc2-8500 ram

In terms of usage, I do mostly gaming on the PC.

Not too long ago there was a Q9550 that sold for $150 here (complete steal of a price), and there is an user actively bumping his WTB post for a similar type quad.
I just bought a Q9450 on fleabay for $150 (couldn't get a Q9550 for a decent price).

just some ideas - I wouldn't spend $250 for a quad of that series.

Not worth it. Overclock the cpu you got now and be happy.

Games aren't really taking advantage of quads yet.. Except for SC2

and Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Well, my Athlon X2 5200 was chocking in that game. I got nearly double fps and increase in image quality when I upgraded to a Phenom 945...

if you can find a good quad (q9x50) for cheap, then the upgrade will probably be worth it. It'll help hold you out in the long run.

The E3110 can easily go to 4 ghz, it is an awesome chip. Put your money into a gpu.

The OP mentioned gaming. Just trying to open up a wider discussion here. Let The OP speak for themselves.

I agree that $250 is too much for an old quad 775 socket processor. The E3110 is a great chip. I don't think you will see much improvement of a quad core on games that doesn't use the 4 cores.
