amd 955 gaming build Just about ready to build my next pc, its gonna be an epic upgrade from my athlon 64 3700/x1650 agp card !! Total at memoryexpress is 1344$, I think they do price match so it'll probably be lower. Not sure about the ram tho. Should I change anything ? first of all, whats it going to be used for? 1350 is your budget? how about pm'ing with ncix, maybe shave a 100 bucks or close. depending on your answers, you may want to get the 1055t or.. h50 is nice, 212+ performs as good and its less than half the price. 690 II is nice, maybe have a look at the 922 . or430? or maybe the ps04b? half than or lower. |
I will use it for gaming mostly and I was thinking around 1250$. I'm set on the 690 II for the case, it was down to that one, the 922 or the lancool pc-k62, I like the look of the 690 better. As for the cpu, i picked the 955 for value really, I don't know what I would gain gaming wise by going with the 1055 or 1090. |
ok. 870a for mobo. try maybe a cheap 240/250 duallie to start with? not all games will see the quad. or jump on 1156 with a duallie and dual gtx 460 1 giger ? :) nice psu, overkill for the above. |

OP, I hope you use price canada to check every piece you are buying so that you can save big money when you go to buy the stuff. EDIT: Just for fun, I ran the numbers myself and came up to 150 dollars in price match savings. Plus no shipping, sweet. |
is memexpress that good? :) |
Their price match guarantee seems amazing, they just don't have the same selection as a place like NCIX does. Their selection still dominates any other store where I live though. |
There's a memory express here in Calgary, thats why I picked them. I want this computer to last for a while so I tought that with the 890fx board I could add another 5870 a year or two down the road and have the x16/x16 option. At that time the new bulldozer should be out so I should be able to get a 1090t for a good price too. I might switch the cooler for a 212. I used bbf.ca and got 1281.90 without the hard drive. I forgot to add a hard drive Western Digital 500GB Caviar Black 7200rpm SATA II w/ 32MB Cache at Memory Express Computers The only real doubt I have is the ram, will that corsair be ok ? |
Corsair's ram is excellent, though if you want some other offerings, check out these from Mushkin & Patriot... If you like you can check out Mushkin or Patriot's offerings too... Mushkin XP3-12800 Blackline DDR3 SDRAM, 4GB Dual Channel Kit (2 x 2GB) at Memory Express Computers Patriot Extreme Performance Viper II Series DDR3 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC3-12800 Low Latency Dual Channel Kit at Memory Express Computers I would also go for the CM Hyper 212+ over the H50 any day as it's a better cooler and you can pick up a 2nd fan for around $10 for a push/pull setup. Everything else is great, good luck with your build :thumb: |
Corsair ram has excellent support, except they are slightly more expensive. I don't think it is worth it to get the Phenom 955 @ $180 when the 1055T is only $30 more expensive. LINK: Anitec.ca - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T (2.80 GHz) 4000 MHz HT Hexa-core Socket AM3 PGA-941 Processor (HDT55TFBGRBOX) |
