Default Gaming/Photo Processing Rig under $1000

I currently have a q6600 on a xfx 680i mb, 8800gts, 8 gigs gskill ram and am looking to upgrade. I have been driving myself crazy looking at all the i5, i7 combinations and now don't know what i should be looking at. I play WoW, SC2, MW2 and work with Photoshop CS5/ Lightroom 3 for my photos.

I need a new processor/MB, ram and a video card. I can drive to NCIX to purchase items if they have the best price.

Please help me as i am totally confused as to what to get.

870a and 1055t. or xeon 3440 and a nice 1156 giga, around the 150 dollar mark you can find

or 930 and stil la giga, this time 1366 socketed of course.

gpu wise, perhaps one 460 to start with

psu go corsair, seasonic. 500 or more watts depending on gpu etc.

Thanks for the reply,

I should have said that I already have a 700w modular power supply in my current system that i will re-use. I really just need mb/cpu, ram and gpu.

I have been looking at the giga boards and am a little confused as to what gives me the best bang for the buck. (too many models to look at)

If your on a budget you can go with this setup..

Asus P7P55D-E Pro - SATA3, USB3 & SLI
Intel Core i5 750 - cheapest intel quad core
CM Hyper 212+ - great performing cpu cooler
G Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ DDR3-1600 4GB 2x2GB - Cheap but great quality ram
EVGA GeForce GTX460 768MB (Get the 2nd one later on for SLI) - excellent card competitive to the 5830
EVGA GeForce GTX460 1GB (Get the 2nd one later on for SLI) - excellent card competitive to the 5850

Good luck with your build

do you really feel your processing power is weak at this point in time? a q6600 isn't THAT horrendous. I'd suggest waiting until intel comes out with a cheaper hex-core, or AMD's game is stepped up with the hex-cores, and let DDR3 prices fall further. I feel that an "upgrade" isn't really suitable for you, going from an older quad to a newer quad. (have you tried overclocking as a stopgap solution?)

you'd probably benefit from a new Nvidia video card though. Photoshop (and lightroom?) can take advantage of the GPU power I hear. Then later on in the future, you can transfer said card to a newer hex-core CPU/RAM/motherboard setup

personal experience on SC2 @ 1440x900 on an 8800GT is every bit as beautiful as my Radeon 4890. - Not sure about a GTS though. MW2 would probably like a new video card.

just my 2 cents!

edit: - Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

alternatively, keep an eye out for a used q9xxx ?
