No, you don't need to buy a separate network card. All modern motherboards have built-in ethernet controllers so you can connect to wired networks. However, if you want to connect to a wireless network then you will need to buy a card for that.

If you have a SATA DVD burner then there's no need to buy a new one. However, if it's an IDE model (it'll have a big black connector on the back with metal pins sticking out, in case you didn't know), then I recommend that you pick up a SATA burner just to make your life easier when it comes to setting everything up.
