Default Opinions on my dream build

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Mostly gaming, internet browsing here and there, watching movies, etc (by etc I really don't mean anything else. Maybe some video and photo editing here and there but that's it really)

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

I tried not to go over $1500 on the parts + extras

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

I'm definitely an AMD/ATI fanboy. I can't help it

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

I'm keeping my monitor, speakers and my printer

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

I've been doing tons of research

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

What kind of a gamer would I be if I didn't plan on overclocking?

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Probably within this year or next year. Depends on when I get a job and if a certain mother lets me use my debit online

9. What resolution do you use?

Nothing higher than 1600x900. That's what my monitor recommends as the optimum resolution

--------------

So here's what I had in mind. Any input on this computer that may or may not even get build is much appreciated

Case: Cooler Master Storm Sniper Black Edition - $142.46

(I hate the look of the HAF. Too bulky :|)

GPU: Sapphire Radeon Toxic HD 5850 - $352.98

(I plan on buying another one later so that I can crossfire)

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core Processor - $169.33

Mobo: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 - $159.84

RAM: G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit - $97.41

PSU: Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU - $77.54

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB HD $57.99

ODD: LG GH22NS50 Black 22X SATA DVD Writer - $21.55

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium - $99.99

----

These are just other things that I want to get.

AMC: Zalman CNPS9900A LED CPU Cooler - $58.32

Keyboard: Logitech G15 Keyboard - $96.49

Mouse: Logitech G500 Mouse - $67.70

Total: $1,458.09

I'm well aware that in the future some of these prices can/may/will go up or down, but this is what I had in mind for the time being. I also know that when I'm ready to buy all this some of it might not be available.

Any suggestions?

If you wanna crossfire, might I reccommend a 750W PSU. A 650 CAN do it, but having that extra headroom is always good. Plus I assume you will be overclocking the CPU.

The GPU is good, but just get yourself a reference design 5850. Could save a couple of $$$.

Get yourself a bigger HDD. You'll thank yourself later.

the case is all opinions, but I would reccommend the 690 II.

Also look at the Hyper 212+ for your CPU heatsink. Add some nice fans to this and you got a kickass cooling solution for cheaper than that Zalman cooler.

That's all I got to say.

Your prices are all on the higher end, you can get most of that stuff for a good bit cheaper if you look around.

Try some pricematch search engines:Shopbot - Compare prices - Canada - Price Comparison - Comparison Shopping
PriceBat.ca - Search & Compare Canada Online Store Prices Before You Buy
PriceCanada.com: Search. Compare. Buy. - Canadian Online Shopping Search and Comparison!

There's a few good sites that don't show up on those search engines though, like Bewawa.

I'd recommend you order from NCIX and pricematch, free shipping usually isn't too hard to get a hold of.

The 5850 is WAY overkill for your resolution btw. I'd also look into investing in a really good power supply so you can keep it through component upgrades. The Zalman cooler is a bit overpriced for its performance level, go with something like the CM Hyper 212 or the Gelid Tranquillo, both can be had for $20-$24.

You can get away with something like a 5770, (which destroys most games at 1680x1050) or you could get the new GTX460 that looks extremely promising. The 460 will be a bit more, but the 1GB version should be able to handle a monitor upgrade.

I would either cheap out on the video card and put it towards something else or bite the bullet and upgrade your monitor.

I'd have to go with a giant no on that.
I'd guess you're most likely not going to be upgrading for a while due to not having a job, I'd say go for a big card now. Once time goes on, it'll be able to keep up better than something like a 5770. I ran a 4870x2 on a 1680x1050 monitor, and was happy I did because I upgraded my monitor and my old GTX260 wouldn't have been able to keep up.

One is a SKU for the stock DC has (top one), and the other is a manufacturer SKU, for which I believe DC does not have stock on hand.
