HD5970 CrossfireX is pretty pathetic IMO. It has very poor scaling.

If you're 100% set, for sure, that you're getting another card down the line, I would suggest the 480. I tried 4870x2(x2) and was not happy with the scaling. I doubt the 5970 does better. Another option is a 5970, and then get a 5870 for Trifire. I haven't read into it much, but it seems to be a popular choice.

I decided to get a 480gtx for future sli
Which one should I get? I like the cooler on the zotqc amp but is it worth it?

You should get an EVGA card with a lifetime warranty. The Zotac cooler isn't worth a lifetime warranty (vs. 2 years on the Zotac).

Actually, the Zotac Amp! also comes with a lifetime warranty if you register in the first 30 days. And from what I've read about the cooler on the Amp!, it's more than worth it. Much better temps, and almost dead silent. I guess it just comes down to whether your case has enough circulation as the Zotac exhausts air inside the case, rather than out the back. It's not all that big a deal with a single card, but in SLi, you'll certainly want some good air flow.

Don't forget that the Zoltec Amp is a triple slot card so it does take up more space which could be a concern if you want to SLI them. You just have to make sure your board has 3 slot spacing.

Personally I'd be "concerned" with a 480 that exhausts all that heat directly into the Case....especially a Sli config.....gotta be a little tougher on Mobo (NB) and CPU.....perhaps its better,,,,?......unsure..I know with Evga you're totally covered by both support / customer service if need be...

....see ya in the 480 Sli gang.....remember, good case, better airflow..important!....btw Sli is a piece of cake:
1. Uninstall Drivers (don't forget Driver Sweeper) and shut down
2. Install new Card (don't forget Sli Bridge)
3. Boot up
4. Install latest n greatest drivers (that you already downloaded and saved).
5. Re-boot at prompt
6. Enable Sli in nvcp
7. At this point I always re-boot one more time.

Install your OC'ing / Fan Profile software (may require one more re-boot).............and thats it!!

Something's wrong here.

1) Your Sony's maximum resolution is low for a 5970. If you want to finish your build now, either downgrade the GPU to just one 5870 which will max out every game on your Sony (anything higher won't be detected by the human eye), or stay the 5970 course and get either a 2560x1600 display or 3 displays at 1920x1200 resolution.

If you are willing to postpone your final build, get a 768GB 460 and keep the display for now. It will perform slightly behind a 5870 on 1080P for less than half the price. Then replace it with the ATI 6xxx series when that comes out after the summer along with a newer display as you will have plenty of options then. A good GPU without a good display is like a good engine without wheels. right now, your 5970 is a V12 engine and your Sony is the 6" rim.

2) If you have the money, always go for the cool, elegant, quite and power-efficient high-end single card solution. Too many people here recommend SLI or crossfire. If computers had emotions they would be crying reading these comments. If you install one card you will get 100% performance. If you install two you won't get 200% performance.

3) I hate this part and I ask you to go to all hardware websites (tomshardawre, anandtech, bit-thech.net, ect.) and don't take my word for it but, 480 has got nothing on the 5970. It performs less, generates more heat and is louder. I wouldn't recommend it to friend or foe.
