My System Specs

Default Super Cheap Build

I'm selling my current rig to a friend in a month or so, but I'd like to still have a capable PC, so I'm trying to figure something out that would be very good on the wallet.

I'd like to keep it below $500 and here's what I own so far:

Coolit Systems Eco water cooler (won in the folding contest )
HIS 5850 (keeping from build, I'll buy him a 5550 or something, cuz he doesn't game)
500 GB HDD (also from my current build, cuz he wants more space)

Everything else is up for speculation, however, I'd like to get some quality parts cuz with the water cooler I want to overclock the daylights outta the CPU.

I'm thinking the Phenom II x2 555 is the best choice for a cheap overclocker. It can hit 4 GHz. I'm gonna need some RAM, a capable motherboard, and then the essentials like a power supply (thinking the VX 450 should do it).

I stress again that cheapness is the main factor hear, but I want to be able to run my 5850 without being CPU limited, so nothing that cheap. I'll be browsing the used section on here when the time comes to also save some money.

super cheap?

anything over an e3300 or athlon II 240/250 doesnt fit in that category

place both in a nice giga (g31/41 or 770/780/785) and youre off to go!

Well I just need to have the following for under $500:

CPU
mobo
RAM
Case
PSU
Optical drive

everything besides the GPU, HDD, and cooler

It is ok...

But i wouldn't use the dual core just because if it doesn't unlock, you'll be stuck with it for a while. Why not use the links that i provided? They are somewhat cheaper, unless you plan on buying in the US.

+1 @ Dangtx. Apparently many users of the LEXA S case don't really like it that much.
