newest games, and at what resolution? do you care about quality, i.e. maxed out settings?

and your budget?

you can use the ram if you go amd quad or hexa core.

best bang per buck would probably be a 5850/5870.

2k? hmmm

930 and a nice giga goard or evga, 150-200 will be good.
ram, gskill for the price, around 150 for 6 gigers
video, one 5870 to start with
display, one sammy 24 incher around 250 tax in

or........get 2 5870's and the sammy 24 incher....and use with your current setup.

Smile New Builds

Hey guys. What about the SSD for the OS? The new Rampage III is rated quite good. I like Mushkin ram, but that's my preference. G Skill is good and priced cheaper. Lifetime warranty is my choice, regardless of make. The 5970 is a great card, though too pricey for most people. The 930 is a popular cpu that is oc friendly. Whatever you choose, it should provide a significant increase in efficiency and performance with the help of the experts on this site.

You already have a lot of good stuff there. Why not check out a S775 quad like the Q9550. People will say it's an 'End of Life' platform, but if you nab yourself a nice graphics card like a 5850 or 5870, you'll be able to wring out quite a lot of life out of your current platform. If your graphics demands increase, your sweet-o board can accommodate a second ATI card for Crossfire if you so desire.

My System Specs

Default

~$300 - Intel Core i7 920 or 930
$200-300 - ASUS or Gigabyte X58 motherboard
$140-1806GB of decent DDR3
~$800 - A pair of HD 5870s from the brand of your choice
$30-50 - Good heatsink (Coolermaster Hyper 212+, Zalman CNPS10X Flex, etc.)
$30 - Bunch of decent 120mm fans
$300 - Decent 24" 1080p monitor

Total: ~$2000 on the upper end

That's what I would go for. If you want to shave off a few more dollars, go with RAM and a motherboard on the cheaper end of the scale, get a 5970 instead of two 5870s, or just get a single 5870.
