Default Would any of these drives operate faster plugged into SATA III connection on mobo?

Would any of these drives benefit from a SATA III connection on my motherboard?

I've been trying to find the answer, and in another thread of mine, it seems the answer was "no", but the answers on the Internet are hardly definitive, and sometimes even contradictory.
(I'm leaning towards “no” or “maybe like 2%”.)

Default Do I need a fan controller or can the mobo handle the job with splitters?

There will be very many fans in the chassis:
–front (2-3), bottom (1), and VGA (1) intakes
–top and rear exhaust (3 total)
–CPU (2 total in push-pull setup on heatsink)

The motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9 and the chassis is a Cooler Master HAF X.

I have not begun putting the parts together, as not all of them have arrived.

Thanks.

Maybe the SSD, but probably not. All the other ones? Definitely not.

I don't have a problem running two run of the mill 120mm fans off one motherboard header using a splitter. I'd be pretty wary of plugging a splitter into a splitter in order to get 3 fans to run. If you wanted 3 on one header then I'd hack apart and make one proper splitter cable after I verified the motherboard's fan header could supply that level of current.

I usually use a molex to 3-pin adapter from the PSU, and use splitters off of that - easier to route, and no issues with pulling too much current from the motherboard.

That burst speed on the 6gb/s HDDs will go up (probably) but then again that is a terrible way to pick one drive over another. None of those drives will really benefit from Sata 6GB/s as they dont saturate a Sata 3GB/s bus. Once you go over the size needed to keep from bottle necking...there is no benefit in going even bigger.

The easiest way to think about drives (true r/w performance and not burst speed) is to think of a 1 lane (OK really 1.5 but...), 3 lane and 6 lane highway. IF there is traffic enough for 2 lanes on the 1 lane highway there will be slow downs...but not on the 3 lane as traffic will flow smoothly. IF that same amount of traffic moves over to a 6 lane...you will not get to your destination any faster on the 6 then on the 3 as there was no slow downs / delays to be removed from the equation :)

did someone combine threads or what?

dont think youll notice much difference for the drives speed. unless you do a synthetic bench or s\uch
