Default Sapphire 5970 in a Lian-Li PC-7FNWX?

Hi, will that card fit in that case? I ask because I have 3 different figures for the maximum graphic card size for this case. The release info tended to say 290mm, this picture suggests that the top pcie slot can hold up to 430mm (with the end poking into the internal 5.25" bays slightly - if that is possible) and the Lian-Li 2010 catalogue (23mb download) says maximum possible graphic card is 310mm. :\

So is it:
a) 290mm,
b) 430mm, or
c) 310mm?

:)

(as I understand it, the reference 5970 is ~340mm.)

My System Specs

Smile New Builds

I have a XFX 5970. If I'm not mistaken, 12" = 300mm. The card is approx. 12 1/2" in length. 25mm = 1". That would make it no longer than 325 mm, which is 13". Hope that helps. Mine looks like it's about 315 - 320.

Thanks.... I was asking more about the case than the card though. :)

I originally chose the case to stop myself buying a 5970 because I physically couln't get it in the case (and really don't need the extra power I don't think, despite doing everything at 1920x1200)... but then I saw that jpg on the Lian-Li site and it ruined everything. It sowed a seed of doubt that I MIGHT actually be able to get the bigger card in (and replace that drive bay cover with a couple of small fans to help with cooling or something) but if it won't fit I'll just get a Toxic 5870.

I just saw something that confirms the Sapphire as being 310mm long, but I want to have room around the end for air to get in... so maybe I should just settle for the 5870. :\

Anyway, thanks for the response.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 2GB OC Edition Review

There is no denying that the HD 5970 is the longest card in the history of modern GPUs. It dwarfs even the 11.5 HD 5870 by measuring about 12.25 (31cm) which will make it a tight fit into anything but the largest of EATX cases. It used to be that upgrading your graphics card meant perhaps upgrading your power supply but with this card, you may need to upgrade your case as well.

Oh I was about to say "the power connectors are on the side how does that affect the length" but they're on the end of the side which will indeed cause a problem. Unless I take to my new Lian Li case with a hacksaw and that is NOT going to happen.. :\

Dammit, looks like the 5870 will have to do. :) It's "only" going to be running a 1920x1200 display so it should be sufficient, shouldn't it?

It fits in the Lian Li PC-60FNWX Black Aluminium which appears identical. See this build that is underway in Australia at the moment.
