Default Gaming Computer, LF <$1500 including tax + shipping

Hi guys I've been lurking around this forum trying to educate myself about builds and such. I've put together a list of pieces I'd like and the cheapest prices I could find for them. But before I do that, I'll post the questionnaire template! :)

================================================== ===========================

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

75% gaming, 25% university (Engineering), watching movies/shows online.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

Less than $1500 total, so anywhere between 1300-1499 with tax (5%) + shipping.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada, and pricematching from NCIX!

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

No particular preference, whatever is best bang for buck and works together right now.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

I already have a monitor, mouse/mouse pad, speakers, etc. Basic peripherals. Only need to buy computer parts + computer case.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

I have!

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

I do plan on some mild/moderate OC'ing later on.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Before July 1st, or when the HST hits Ontario!

9. What resolution do you use?

1900 x 1200

================================================== ===========================

So, the parts that I've picked out are as follows and in Canadian dollars, please let me know if there are any incompatibility issues and/or if you think there are better parts/price for them. I will also be upgrading this computer throughout the year when more funds come through, such as putting in a SSD + Audio card. Thank you!

I would go for XFX 5870 because their warranty is pretty good.

If you've already started university, see if you can get access to the MSDNAA (MSDN academic alliance) through the uni. You can get Win 7 pro (64 and 32 bit) from there for free as well as some other microsoft software (not office though).

Oh sweet I've never heard of the the MSDNAA. Does it matter that it's summer vacation right now for the application (i.e. do I have to wait for school to start)?

And thanks for the comments! Any critique or suggestion is welcome of course. :)

Not every faculty is registered or gets the benefits of the MSDNAA so dont expect to have access to it depending on what you are studying. You can only have access to it once you've started the school semester in the fall

They have some weird requirements for MSDNAA access. I requested for an account to be made since I was in engineering but they denied it since I had to be in EE or CompSci, and was instead told to use the copy of Win7Pro that they kept in one of the computer labs and pirate it -.-. Big YMMV there. And Yes, you have to wait for school to start
