Arinoth is correct. The folding client checks for a minimum of 8 visible cores before it will download a bigadv WU. The i7's get away with it only because they have HT, which makes them appear to have 8 cores to the OS.

Both Xeon 5680 and Xeon 5650 are both 6 core hyperthreading processors, I think based on price alone I may go with the 5650 and see how they hang in there. 24 cores even at 2.66 should still net some advantage.
