My System Specs

Default quick new (old) build for chimp challenge

hey guys, I'm looking to get a dedicated folding rig up and running for chimp challenge Wednesday. I have the following old parts laying around:

WD raptor 74GB
BFG 7950 GT OC
2 GB DDR2-667 RAM (Generic brand)
Antec TruePower Trio 550W PSU

So basically, I need a cheap Mobo+CPU combo that I will be buying from the local Tiger Direct store or Wintronics here in Burlington. Essentially I want to spend as little as possible on both of these parts, while still being able to put up decent folding #s.

No brand preference here, AMD or Intel is fine.

Do you mean BFG 7950 GT... never heard of a 9750... Anyway, unfortunately only 8xxx series cards and up are supported for running the Folding@Home client...

The 8800gts will work fine... the 512Mb version has 128 shaders and will put out around 5.5K PPD. The older 320 and 640 Mb versions only have 96 shaders I believe but should still put out decent PPD. Every little bit counts...

For low-end I would go with AMD quad setup. Boards are cheaper, and the chips are decent. The mobo will also support the new X6 core-chips if you should find a deal later on.

A 96SP 8800GTS should put out about 4k PPD.
