Default $800 Build For Son In Law

Hey guys,
Used to building "higher end" stuff..looking for suggestions (Parts List) for a "budget $800 Build"..

Casual use including gaming (lets not consider Metro 33)
Not sure his Res, but lets say 1280 x 1024
CDN purchase online
Intel and I'll be giving him either an Evga 9800GTX+ or GTX280 SSC
No SLi required
Lets see what you guys can come up with...

Cheers

So you won't need a new video card for him, right? And does he want/need any new monitors or peripherals?

Well assuming he doesn't need a new monitor, peripherals, or a video card other than the one you're giving him, this is what I would do:

Gigabyte P55-USB3 - $134.99
Intel Core i5 750 - $227.99
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus - $29.36
G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ - $129.99
Silverstone Decathlon DA650 - $109.99 (savings online only)
Samsung Spinpoint F3
- $99.99
Coolermaster CM 690 II - 69.99 (sale)
YOUR TOTAL $802.30

If that $2.30 really gives you trouble I think I have some change

Oh, right. I guess sometimes I block out how heavily we're taxed for my own happiness. I just checked and tax makes it nearly $900 (!) and that's if the parts are all picked up from an NCIX branch to waive shipping cost (I thought he lived in the GVRD for some reason).

Gigabyte P55-USB3 - $134.99
Intel Core i5 750 - $227.99
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus - $29.36
OCZ Z-Series 650W- $84.99 (sale, $59.99 AMIR)
Coolermaster CM 690 II - $69.99 (sale)
WD Caviar Black 640GB - $59.99 (sale)
Patriot Sector 5 PVV34G1333LLK - $124.99 ($114.99 AMIR)
Shipped standard with insurance and ExpressRMA
= $847.14 => $807.14 AMIR

Keep in mind more money can be saved after price matching. I just took a look after price matching MoBo + CPU + HSF with BestDirect and it came out to $803.73 => $763.73 AMIR, shipped. PS I saw a good deal on a 4GB G.Skill kit ~$10 cheaper AMIR on BestDirect but kept the Patriot listed instead due to better timings. It's under Hot Deals, if you want to look.

Thanks guys, as said:
1. Intel
2. No GPU required
3. Will also go WD Black 640

Don't worry about keyboard / mouse / monitor

How would that Coolermaster Case be for cooling a GTX 280?...as in Air Flow?

Pfft, he don't need no fancy OS! Ah, seriously though you're killing me here. I'm too stubborn to rest until I meet your challenge. Airflow in the CM 690 II should be good, it's a popular case and I've heard nothing but good things so far. The Thermaltake I'll be listing isn't as widespread but what reviews I can find are all positive as well, though they note putting on additional third party fans is optimal. PS I hereby declare war on the PST.

Price matches (PM) made with BestDirect.ca unless otherwise stated.

MSI P55-CD53 - $109.99 (sale)
Intel Core i5 750 - $227.99 PM $207.79
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus - $29.36 PM $22.00
OCZ Z-Series 650W- $84.99 (sale, $59.99 AMIR)
Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Case - $49.99 PM w/TigerDirect.ca: $42.97 ($32.97 AMIR)
WD Caviar Black 640GB - $59.99 (sale)
G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws - $118.99 PM $108.29
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-Bit OEM - $105.99 PM $99.51
Shipped standard with insurance and ExpressRMA
$854.10 => $819.10 AMIR

That's the closest I can get without cutting too many corners, I think. At least it's all I'll do for now. Good night! (hope I don't have budget build nightmares)
