Default quiet, small, low power

hi guys im building my friend a pc but he is a little anal about what he wants. he wants something quiet, small sized, and low power/heat emissions.

this is what i have so far:
- Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H AMD785G mATX AM2+ PCI-E DDR2 Video Sound GBLAN CrossFireX HDMI Motherboard
- AMD Athlon II X2 235E Dual Core Energy Efficient Processor AM3 2.7GHZ 2MB Cache 45W Retail Box
- Samsung SH-S223C 22X DVD Writer SATA Black OEM
- Patriot Viper Extreme Performance 4GB DDR2 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-12 Memory Kit
- Western Digital SE16 320GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Cache 8.9MS NCQ Hard Drive OEM 3YR MFR Warranty

he plays flight simulators and watches a bit of 720p movies... so i dont think a video card is required, as well it would kinda go against the quiet and low power thing, lol.

kinda need help with a case but can't really find the right one... i wanted to pick the antec p180 for it's hard drive anti-vibration feature because thats a big cause of the noise, is vibration. but the case is sold out and apparently isnt going to be in stock for a while so i kinda have to step away from that idea.

i was thinking of the silverstone se02, but that one doesnt seem to have a lot of noise protection features. and then i thought about the lancool k56, but that is a huge case too.

i know someone here can help me, so if you can, thanks a lot!

Fractal's just came in at NCIX, very nice budget solution for quiet pc enthusiasts.
NCIX FORUMS - Fractal Design Define R2 has arrived!
The onboard video should be good enough for 720p, but IIRC flight simulators are pretty cpu intensive, might wanna get a cheap low power quad core.

those are really nice cases, dunno if it gets any better than that but it's still really big

Wow, totally missed the SFF part of your post.

How about an i3/i5 itx build? i3 530 should be pretty good undervolted
NCIX.com - Buy Zotac H55ITX-A-E MINI-ITX Core I3/I5 LGA1156 H55 DDR3 PCI-E16 SATA RAID WiFi Audio Video Motherboard - H55ITX-A-E In Canada.
Add the Silverstone Sugo, or one of those really nice Lian Li itx cases.

But then again I'm not sure how small your friend wants it.

HDD vibration absorption is kinda hard to come by in smaller cases, maybe just enable AAM? I know that does wonders for my caviar black, which has notoriously noisy seeks.

Maybe check out some posts at silentpcreview.

Not sure if this was mentioned but depending on how much stress he puts on his computer, you may want to look at an ION unit. It is extremely efficient, very quiet and has decent performance in most day to day tasks. Gaming is so-so but the HD video decoding is top notch.

would it perform better than the hd4100 in the 785g chipset?

all he plays is flight simulators, he uses the computer just for general tasks, hes lookin for something quiet and won't heat up his tiny little room in the summers :P it doesn't really need to be future proof, i mean if it can handle flight simulators, some movies, no doubt basic things, it should be good for any programs in the future. it can handle windows 7 so it's all good. but that seems like a good idea almost, if i get the ion bundle it'll be a lot quieter and won't heat up his room, but only problem with that is upgrading later on is nearly impossible for the processor. i can plug in a pci-e card but whats that if the atom is going to be bottlenecking it...know what i mean? so i suppose if it'll perform just as well as the atom/ion platform, we'll go with that.
