Default Help choosing some parts

PLEASE when POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for.

Gaming, browsing, watching movies, music.

2. What YOUR budget is.

Up to $3000 CAD But obviously the lower I can keep it the better.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Newegg.ca and/or NCIX

4. IF YOU have a brand preference.

Intel for CPU, ATI for videocards. Not that I'm a fanboy but I just want to go this way for the current build.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

I've been doing research for about 2 weeks now but still am not 100% set.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Minor overlocking. No modding. (cooling or case)

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

9. What resolution do you use?

1680x1050 for now, I'm going to be looking for a 1920x1080 monitor as well. Probably a month or so after I have the machine.

Current list of parts:

Silverstone Fortress FT02B-W
Core I7 930 with a CM Hyper 212 Plus
P6X58D Premium
XFX 5870 XXX Edition (not 100% on this, I like the lifetime warranty and construction though)
Kingston SSDNow V+ Series 128GB

Parts I'm still unsure of:

Power supply. I have been looking around and I have no idea what to go with.
At first I was set on the Corsair 1000HX, but then I was told that a 80+ Gold or Silver would be better for power consumption/heat.

RAM. I never really understood much about RAM. Timings, frequency and voltages make me worry about buying the wrong or a bad set. I would prefer not to have to go into the BIOS and change voltages/timings. Unless that is a must nowadays.

Hard drives. I also want 2 drives (probably 1TB each) to put in RAID 0. I've used WD for the past 10 years without a problem. But from the newegg and other reviews I've read, it seems recent HDDs have had higher than usual failure rates. Should I go WD or Seagate? Or something else?

Optical drive. I don't need BluRay. A regular DVD combo drive will be fine. What brands are solid?

Lastly, I will be getting a second 5870 eventually. So the PSU will need to be ready for that. I will be getting 90 degree SATA cables and some extra fans as well (for the CPU heatsink and case). What is a good site for these accessory type parts? (Canadian)

Thanks for any help!

Well if you are getting a core i7, you will want tripple channel RAM such as this:

NCIX.com - Buy Corsair XMS3 TR3X6G1600C9 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24 Core i7 Memory Kit - TR3X6G1600C9 In Canada.

Your motherboard supports 1600 speed RAM natively witout OCing, so no BIOS manipulation should be needed.

By the way your PSU would be more than enough, even 850 would be plenty. If you really want efficient, I believe this is one of the most efficient PSU's on the market:

NCIX.com - Buy OCZ Z-SERIES 850W 80+ Gold Certified 24PIN ATX 71A 12V Afc Power Supply W/ 135mm Fan - OCZZ850 In Canada.

NCIX/Directcanada have all the accessories you need. Most of these fans/wires/adaptors and such can be pricematched quite a bit too.

so buy from NCIX and use the pricematching function. You can do it for everything in your cart BTW.
I pricematch EVERYTHING I buy from them. And they always accept (within regulations).
