Default noob spending alot of money, what do you think?

making a gaming / media center trying to make it fairly future proof /w WC for low noise.

specs:

corsair 800d obsidian case (purchased)
i7 920
evga x58 3way sli classified (purchased)
6gb 1600 8-8-8 24 corsair dominator (purchased) (upgrade to 8 or 12gigs in the future)
2x evga gtx 470 hydros (good bang for the buck and come with WB pre-installed)
1200w antec quattro power supply (purchased)
2x 1 tb hitachi's (purchased) (want to set up a raid0 sys with 2x 1 tb, 2x 2tb in hotswap bays and have 2 non raided non hotswap 60gb ssd for w7 and hackintosh on seperate drives in the future)

couple questions

- ill be running 7.1 surround with this thing should i throw some $ at a good soundcard or no?

- this system will be running on a 50' sony lcd projection tv 1080i through hdmi connection what kinda rez would you be looking at running to get best performace from the gpu's (i know the 400 series suck for high rez right now)

- for water cooling i want to do a single loop with a 5.25 bay resivour, 3x120 rad, wb's for the motherboard, cpu and the gtx 470 hydros. pump can be integrated or not ( i've read that the non integrated are generally better) 1/2 tubing /w compression fittingsand fesser on non conductive coolant.
any product recomendations? and will a single loop be sufficent for this set up with OCing?

- anyone who has gone down the WC path and srewed it up. throw me some knowledge please.

- and im concernd with condensation on componets any ways to avoid and protect against it?

thanks for your time guys.

I'll be doing the same on a single loop minus the 2 470s and add a 480, looks great so far amn!

Have you heard anything about the availability on the eVGA wc FTW's?

you will want to match your resolution to your display, as you stated was 1920x1080 interlaced, it could actually be somewere in the 1366x768 progressive range though(as 1080i can simply mean it handles that input and scales it appropriately), the 400 series should dominate those resolutions

If you're spending lots of money on your rig and watercooling, I'd go right ahead and do away with the 920/930 and instead get the hexacore 980X. OC that monster to 4GHz and we're talking serious number crunching :)

If you're connecting it to a HDMI Receiver, the video card will pass the sound directly to it. Work awesome..

musabi: evga hasnt released anything on the availablity of the ftw 400 series yet. the normal 400 series in supposed to be available mid month so id asume we should be able to grab the ftw's by the end of the month..

tragd: i heard that the 920 d0 is the prcessor to go for and i havent seen a 930 d0 stepping processor on the market. but yea they are both around the same price right now. ill probably go with the 920 just because its supposed to OC very well people are saying over 4ghz out of them with watercooling. idono if the 930 can say the same or not.

mook: thanks mook that sounds promising i was alittle worried how or if the big screen would effect performace on my gpu's.

mr. gruntsworthy: sorry dude no way am i dumping over a grand on a processor. ill be OC my 920 or 930 to around 4ghz neways and the 980x is still really new to the market and way to expensive, ill be looking into upgrading to that in a year or two probably tho when pricing drops.

- i have heard the 6core processors are better for gaming tho.. but then ive also heard that games dont yet fully utillize a quad core processor yet... thoughts?

thanks for the imput guys keep em coming still need alot of WC info / suggestions

930's should OC just as well as the D0. If you look through some 980x reviews, you'll find the general consensus is that they aren't much of a gaming cpu since almost no games use 6 cores. Spend the money on your video cards. How much are you getting the 470 Hydro's for? Also, I'm no genius on watercooling but you might, big might, have to do a separate loop for the gpu's considering how hot they're running. Try one loop first and if its just not cool enough for you, add in a second. As for rads, I say go for a Thermochill PA120.3. More expensive than a MCR320 but according to some reviews done by people even a PA120.2 can beat a MCR320 and with that much heat in your system, might as well go for something that will be able to handle the load. You also don't need to run your fans as fast with the Thermochill
