Default Ubuntu Ultimate machine

ok I ask it on the Ubuntu forum and peoples don't have the same criteria for Ultimate

so for the one who are using Ubuntu or similar Distro, what wil be your ultimate machine to have the fastest desktop, of course with out spending for nothing , Last one I build was using a P IV and I was not satisfy with the performance.

4, 6, 8, or 12 gb of Ram

4, cores or 8 ( including HT)

is Amd powerfull enough , or I will see a difference with a i 920

what is the best graphic card, or combinaison for 3 LCD ( 22 or 24" )

and no need to tell that Windows 7 or a Mac will be better, I have also them

.

Well Ubuntu is pretty powerful as it is. It does not need a lot of ram or CPU cycles.

Not really sure what to say here.....I guess that a i7 920 is more than powerful enough for Ubuntu.....and depending if you are running any Virtual Machines or anything When it comes to RAM....more is always better. :)

I would say that for normal use, any half-decent dual-core CPU and 2GB of RAM or so would be more than enough. Ubuntu 9.04 runs without a hitch on my secondary PC, and you can see the specs for that in my signature. You say ultimate, but if you're talking about just desktop usage, you won't see any real difference between a decent machine and a super high-end rig.
