This is what I'm going with so far for sure unless someone can give me a good argument against. Keep in mind I WILL NOT shop online for reasons mentioned earlier and I only shop at Filtech unless Canada Computer can offer better pricing.

Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz - $299.99 CAD
Asus Rampage II GENE - $215.99 CAD
OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Gold XTC Triple Channel 6GB - $159.99 CAD
Sapphire HD5870 1GB GDDR5 Game Edition - $399.99 CAD

I was under the assumption that that RAM would be the one thing people scoff at. Hopefully someone can suggest a set around the same price range?

As for your card. I bought my 4890 for $120 less than 5 months ago, my friend had bought his 5 months prior to that give or take for 5 times that! lol We feel your pain. That's why I'm not pulling the trigger on a 5970 atm, $600+ hundos waaaaay too much right now.

$ 399.99 is very good look at the price of NCIX

NCIX.com - Buy Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 850MHZ 1GB 4.8GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E 2XDVI HDMI Display Port DirectX 11 Video Card - 21161-00-50R In Canada.

Tell me about it, they have an Asus version $425 and a Sapphire Vapor-X 469.99 and a Power Color at $419 go figure. lol That's why I'm loyal, they're overpriced on certain things but mostly they're right up there with NCIX and Canada Computers.

Disagreed. The better build quality and the modular design ALONE are worth it.

I am typing on a i5 650....that has Hyperthreading.

Seriously!? Okay, way to throw a wrench into everything now bud! I kid, I kid. What would you recomend as a good rig using the i5 chipset as a starting point? Not to say I'll go i5, but I have time to look at every idea.

Well I am loving the setup I have.....

i5 650 Dual Core with Hyperthreading
Asus P7P55D-E Pro ( this one has the SATA 3 and USB 3 fpor the future and does not have the huge "3" design flaw that the Gigabyte has )
G.Skill Ripjaws Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHZ ram = 4GB ( another to be added later for a total of 8GB )
XFX Radeon 5850 XXX Edition ( One for now )
OCZ Agility 120GB SSD ( Another to be added later for RAID )

IMHO this has all the power that you and I would EVER need.

Well after I turned on Auto Tuning....the ram got OC'ed and the CPU got a VERY healthy OC to 4.5GHz.....on STOCK COOLING.

Forgot to add that I have a Corsair H50 as well......just not installed yet. Waiting until I get a case.
