your choice will be base on the kind of OC you want to achieve,

because if you Oc , you will probably disable the HT , if you go with air cooling I will say to get a 750. And if you plan to WC, you will be good with a 920 too, the 920 produce a lot more heat, for gaming the 750 have a little bit advantage on the bench, you will not notice it in real life, just to say that a 920 is not faster for gaming.

anyone can achive a good 4,0 ghz OC with a 750 and good temps with anything like a 212+ cooler or better , it will be real hot for a 920 at 4,0 ghz with only a 212+

if you want to improve performance and keep your SSD a longer time, you need to disable the page files, for do so you need 6 gb minimum, it's too risky at 4 gb, your pc will crash if it reach the maximum of ram need, with a 1156 it means 8 gb if you want to keep your dual channel.

my personal feeling.... get your rampage II gene, I have one I'm building an xtreme WC with it, and a i7-965 . it's a DAM good board. look in few minute I start my work log on it

I have to agree. As tempting as the i5's seem, I really want the GENE. That board and the ability to use the next chip makes i7 a better choice me thinks.

I don't know if you own an Asus ROG before, but you have for your money, especially with this gene, the sound card is amazing, the start button is very good to use and to see too. just for the power and other connector , they include a white adaptor, you place your connector on it, ( very well labeling on it too ) and you just plug this adaptor on the board, with my poor 49 years old eyes , it's the only kind of board I don't need my optivisor over my eye glass to plug thoses conectors.

lol I aslo find that unless you have the dainty fingers of a 90 lb woman like my wife there's that annoying fact also. I owned a Maximus Formula prior to my current mobo.

I've only heard one bad thing about the NB getting way too hot. Have you noticed anything like that?

My previous setup was nice too;

Q6600/Maximus Formula/Two Radeon 3870x2's/8GB RAM/1000watt psu etc.

I went water cooled for the CPU only and used a crappy Thermaltake system not the prefered Swiftek at the time. I have no experience with NB watercooling. Is it easy? I can always go with a fan cooler. Do they even exist for the GENE mobo?

P.S.

Out of these coolers;

Welcome to Filtech Computer: Your Best Computer Bargain in Toronto.

This is where I'm getting my parts. Thanks.

I bet you that my 750 setup will beat any 920 with the same xfire configuration I have.

for the memory , how come 3 stick is the same price as 4 sticks, you have to cut in the quality some place.
Just saying that's what I feel you would really only need the x58 platform for is for 2 more video cards for the bandwidth. Sure he can still xfire/sli on P55. As for the memory, just check out current prices. A kit of 2x2gb is around ~$100 while the 3x2gb kits are ~$200. 2 kits of 2x2gb = $200

For photoshopping, doesn't the newest version support CUDA? Might want to look into a nvidia solution for that. If you're into 3d modelling/rendering, I believe there is a plugin for Maya that allows the use of Cuda for rendering as well, which would be much faster than CPU rendering. Hyperthreading for games is useless for now anyways. Yes, the i5's lack hyperthreading but there are also i7 CPUs for the 1156 socket, like the i7 860 I mentioned or the Xeon x3450. And in regards to upgrading to a gulftown CPUs (6 cores), I'm sure 4 cores and 8 threads (Hyperthreading) should do you fine for a couple of years at least

That is also true though that the gene comes with decent onboard sound, probably comparable to one of the older Audigy cards though. Which were pretty good sound cards actually.
