Default PSU Advice

Hey everyone,

First post, need some advise on power supplies.

New Rig.

Case - Corsair 800D
CPU - i7 920
Ram - Corsair DDR3 XMS3 PC12800
cooler - NH-D14
mobo - Gigabyte x58a-ud3r
PSU - Ultra LSP 750
GPU - 9800gt x2 (not upgrading till around sept-dec)

I already have this running just nicely, but I'm giving my old rig (q6600) to a friend for his gaming machine, and am still using my old PSU so I will either have to buy him one or shell out some dough for another upgrade. Currently I have a LSP 750. I was thinking of plunging into the HX1000w because I'm going to get some beefy video cards in 6-8 months and have had modular PSU's in the past and have since hated this non modular PSU I currently have. But my only concern is the HX1000w is a 2 year old model, does anyone have any other recommendations?

From a Multiple LSP Owner that PSU is not too bad but shy on the AMPs which you will need down the road.

If you like Modular I'd suggest two that aren't in the KW range.

Corsair HX850 or Silverstone Strider Plus 850W. Either of those PSU's will run perfectly for you for anything you may need in the Future. Give the LSP to your friend there and be happy. It will Run for a long time. I've had LSP's since they were out from Ultra and have yet to RMA one. They lack AMPs for comparable models but are rock stable and reliable.

M12D (insert wattage here) is a good option too.

Thanks for the advice guys, went with the HX1000 anyways heh, I guess I should have said give me a good reason not to get it (besides overkill :P ). I picked up a 3007WFP from the dell deals and so I will be sticking with xfire or sli to keep things running smooth, and wanted to future proof it :D

Default Psu advice

Good choice for a ps. I have 4hdd, 3 10 000s, 1 7200.
The creative fatality champ and ultra chilltec cpu cooler.
8 gigs of ddr3 1333 ram and currently the 295 gtx.
The 9550 ocd slightly @ 3.16 with 5 case fans in the Coolermaster Cosmos full size case.
I recently purchased, but have not yet received 2 5970 hd blacks, and all the tests say this will be enough with the new cards.
One thing is certain, I use a 40" Sony Bravia tv in 1080 and have not had any issues whatsoever.
Alot of 1000w psu's have low amperage considering this one gives you 80 amps!!!

Happy gaming

HX1000 is a great choice, looks great and comes with plenty of cables. Using it on my rig and has no problem at all. Wont go wrong with corsair. Also, what a great badge it comes with.

There are some better-quality PSUs out there, but not that many. All-in-all a solid choice.

Yep.my HX 1kW:
I7 @ 3.85Ghz
6GB Doms @ 1612 Mhz
1 x 80GB Intel G2
1 x 120GB Vertex
2 x 640GB WD Blacks
3 x GTX 280's @ 730 / 1458 / 2500
Classified Mobo
7 x 120mm Fans (1250 - 1850 RPM)
2 x Optical Drives
Bunch of LED Lts

The thing is a "brute"...the only other 1 kW I've considered at this oint is the Silverstone Zeus 1.2 kW (I think)....bottomline is I've had this set-up for quite ometime and haven't had to look at PSU's in quite sometime ;)
