Default New Build i5 vs i7 pre-built...

Hey guys,

I really love these forums, and as I'm getting ready to build my new computer, I have a few questions to ask, and get opinions on.

BUDGET: $1500

Everyday computing, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop.
Some gaming, since I play everything on the 360.

Parts will be purchased from Ontario, Canada.

I don't need a keyboard, mouse, or monitor.

My monitor is SyncMaster 323T

I'm looking at 2 options right now for my new build.

I do plan on overclocking.

I plan on buying this ASAP, and I'm researching a lot right now.

Option 1 - build from scratch - Price is app $1200 before taxes

Motherboard - asus p7p55d deluxe - $200 after mail in rebate
Infonec Computers - Computer parts Canada, PC Components, laptop computers, motherboards, processors, CPUs and much more : ASUS P7P55D DELUXE 1156 INTEL P55, 2XPCI-E X16,4D.DDR3-1600MHZ, 6+2

Processor - core i5 750 - NewEgg.ca - $208.99

Video Card - BFG GeForce GTX 260 - Future Shop - $180

8 GB Kit - g skill DDR 3 PC1600 Memory - 4 x 2 GB - $128.48 x 2

1 TB - 7200 RPM - $85.99
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=027571&cid=HDD .443.877

Case - antec g 183 - $140

Power supply - 750W Thermaltake Power Supply - $130

Option 2 - Buy a pre-built i7 system for $1250

Intel i7 940 Processor (2.93 Ghz / Max Turbo Frequency 3.2Ghz)
Asus P6T Deluxe Motherboard
Samsung High Performance DDR3 1333Mhz 6G kit(2G X 3) - ??? Is this the best memory option?
Personally I'd prefer 1600 MHZ.
1T Hard Drive - not sure what brand it is...
Asus ATI HD 5770 1G GDDR5 video card - Not sure if this is the best video card option?
Samsung 22X DVD-RW
NZXT Gaming Case
TT PurePower 500W P/S - best power supply?

If I go for build 2, do you have any advice as to which parts I should change?

These prices are before taxes, and I'm just not sure and un-decided on which way to go.

Any advice and feedback would be greatly appreciated!

As you can see, the price is almost identical, but I'm just concerned about
the pre-built system for some reason, since it's an i7 940 processor which
retails for over $600, something just doesn't make sense, maybe it's just me
being paranoid, idk, and thus I'd like your feedback. ;)

Thanks in advance.

Option 1 seems pretty solid as it'll likely overclock better then Option 2 and depending on your intentions for the system, that particular i7 system doesn't have that great of benefits (drop the CPU down to an i7 920 and its a different story).

You could likely save a bit on your case selection in Option 1 as you can grab a Coolermaster 690 Adv II case for $85-100 and it has all the features you'd likely need for $40 cheaper. And with the savings I'd grab a better CPU cooler (since you want to overclock), maybe a CM Hyper 212+ Cooler. Also for the PSU, I'm not a huge fan of Thermaltake but for that price you can grab a nice modular Corsair HX650 or HX750W PSU and have a better product overall. You also might benefit from a better videocard then the GTX260, I'd go for either the ATI HD5770 ($170-200) or the ATI HD5850 ($300-320) if you can afford it or buy a higher end GTX 275 or 280 on the used market as people prepare for Fermi. Other then that Option 1 seems very solid.

The 5770 is plenty for 1920x1080p gaming with mild MSAA (2x) and AF (8x or 16x).

I would go with your first option with few change. First of all the HDD! thses caviar green are data disk NEVER PUT A OS ON IT it will be dead slow!!!go with caviar black. Then the PSU. Go with Corsair, Seasonic or some other good brand. Thermal take is good but not the best and the PSU is THE part you don't want to mess with. Also drop the 260 for a 5770 or a 5850 if you can. GTX 260 is a 2 years old card and you will love to have DX 11 in the future. Drop the P7P55D pro and go with the P7P55d Standard, she will give you all you need and you will save like 30 buck that you can put in a CPU like I7 860. Also, remove this crappy TT cooler from the list and put a reall guy if you plan to OC like thermalright Venomous X or a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ for light ( but decent ) OC.
That was my grain of salt.
