Not sure I agree with your reasoning.

Not so long ago a 450-500 watt power supply was considered high end. I doubt anyone is using the PSU they bought back then in their main rig (since it was probably only 20 wires and might not have had the power connections PSU's do today.), and 5 years from now, what's decent now will be a joke. Hell, in 5 years ATX could very well be depreciated and replaced with another standard. The power supply might blow out just out of warranty, too. (edit) 7 year warranty. nm!

Since the computer is being built for someone else, maybe it's better to just ask the girlfriend what she wants and go with that instead. If she didn't upgrade her old computer all that much since owning it, well, history tends to repeat itself.

It's called OVERHEAD. Who knows what'll happen within the life of this PC? Maybe they'll add a big, powerful GPU to it, maybe it'll be used for the next build or two when more power is required. Furthermore, since PSUs' maximum wattage goes down as the capacitors age, it's good to get a beefy one if you'll be using it for a long time.

Definitely don't skimp on the monitor. It's the part you have to look at!

This PC is for his girlfriend who's into MMOs. As for the 965...*cough*ripoff*cough*. Only Extreme edition that's even marginally worth it IMO is the 980X.

I'd go with a PII 550 / 555, 770T, TX650 and Spinpoint F3 1TB or Caviar Black 640, but yeah, that would run MMOs fine.

useless provocation, not for me , for the one who own those kind of CPU on this board.

No, it's just that the extra $700 it costs gets you marginal speed increases and an unlocked multiplier (which only costs about $20 on AMD CPUs).

I highly suggest you read the thread again Raserei408, Mark never mentionned that the OP should use a 965 for that build. He was replying to b1lk1.

As far as PSU wattage, a 450W would be overkill for such a build - even with overhead...

Because most enthusiasts are anal with our hardware, we pick and nitpick the best of the best.

If you got her an OK mid range GPU, A, say, Athlon X4 620 and a quality AM3 board with a non-modular PSU because who cares what it looks like inside (again for her, not for you :P) and a great monitor with maybe a stylish new kb/mouse, whats for her not to like? You can make that cost way less too. Fast HD I agree with, they're not expensive (WD black)
