old computer reconstruction

I need a few tips from you guys since it's been a while I am not in hardware anymore.

My 'old' gaming rig which was a pii 940 + 4GB pc8500 + over a TB of drives is now dissassembled and most of it is in my virtual machine server and my main rig is now a p4 3.2, 1.5GB ddr400 with a 3870 and a 350W shitty psu, so I need help upgrading a few things in order to be able to have my 4850 running without bottlenecking or with a small bottleneck.
I would have prefered selling the 4850 because frankly I'm not gaming much/at all anymore but selling that under 100$ would make me go nuts, so I prefer to put it back in my computer and at least have it running well when I would need it.

Where I need help is that I have a am2 board laying around and I want to know which athlon X2 cpu exactly could prevent bottlenecking of the 4850 and what PSU could make that all run well without imploding in the long run.

the only time i sell old gear is when there just too much of it lying around taking up space and the wife starts yelling about it.
I don't think a phenom 2 940 would bottle neck it.

Argh, sorry if i mislead anyone by my pretty bad english :P

What I meant in a more structured explanation is:

-my pii 940, ddr2 ram and all the drives are now installed in my VM server
-all my watercooling components + case are either sold or pending being sold
-my 'new' main workstation/gaming rig is now my old prescott 3.2GHz and all my old components on the board including an old 3870

-I still have my am2+ board laying around and I still have my 4850 that I took out of my gaming rig that I'm selling/sold most of the parts
-I need to know what kind of dual core cheap amd cpu could do the trick in -not- bottlenecking or slightly bottlenecking the 4850 in gaming
-I need to know what kind of PSU could power all that (by all that I mean athlon X2, 2GB ddr2, 4850, 1 hdd and a 790fx board)

oh i see i don't buy a lot of amd chips lately but the amd 550 black looks good or say a 620 quad core they all should open up some doors and there pretty cheap

550 Black since the 620 Quads low L2 cache are horrible for gaming no matter the clockspeeds.

every review i have read there pretty much on the level with whats out there for amd in that price range. just wondering why you say this? i have no first hand experience with these chips ( 550 or 620 ) but almost all of them seem to be on the same level gaming wise i mean. jmo

After looking at some charts I checked at my local store and they have the XII 250, would that be a good thing?

If so, what kind of PSU would I need to run that + a 4850?

OK for now, i would spend a few more $$$ for a 720BE or 630 Quad

Are the upcoming games/games that were just released finally optimised for quads or is the two extra core still a joke for gaming?
