Default P55 or X58

So for my new build coming up, I am going to need to choose between the X58, or P55. Here are the options.

Cia PM @ NCIX, the i7 920 (+$20 D0) is the same price as the i7 860. The same almost goes for the motherboards.

For general gaming, and overclocking, which is going to be better:
Intel Core i7 920 D0 + EVGA X58 SLI LE
V.S.
Intel Core i7 860 + EVGA P55 FTW Edition

They are pratically the same price - so this is a hard decission for me.

I would get the 860 + a better P55 board instead of a 920 with a low end X58 board.

By "860 + a better P55" do you mean something other than the P55 FTW?

Not necessarily P55 FTW is already a good board, or you can look at GA-UD5 and more or the Classified version from EVGA. Just look at all the high end solution you have from all board manufacturer and take the one you prefer with the 860 and a good cooler then, give it some OC and talam there is a beast. That's what I have done with mine using the UD5 and I really love it.

Pretty close really, you cant go wrong either way. I found that the good boards for P55 were cheaper than x58 so I went with the 860 and FTW myself.

Here is my review if you havent read it: EVGA P55 FTW LGA1156 Motherboard Review

I know this is kind of stupid, but it needs to be black. Hence EVGA's board. I think I will go for that FTW edition. It's going to be cooled with an HK 3.0 on a tripple SR1

Well if it need to be black there is your best choice. As Eldonko tell you the FTW is a pretty good monster so enjoy it and for cooling...You show me that you have nothing to worries about

i was in the same situation last week, finaly go with p55, why? with the retail edga program you can find a sealed 860 for 250$, so i save about 100$ including taxe and shipping on the cpu and i dont need 6gb of ram so i save a litle on 4gb kit

Most definitely. All those retail-people are selling 860s for much cheaper than computer stores do. Grab one and a P55.
