Default First Build - Budget Gaming

The primary use for this build is to play games released in the last 5 years. I have been away from gaming for a while so existing games will keep me busy. I'm looking to spend $700 to $900

I'm Canadian and ordering from Canada.

I don't intend on overclocking.

Here is what I've put together so far from NCIX:

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620 ($109)
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 ATX AM2+/AM3 AMD770 PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 RAID 1394 HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard ($70)
RAM: G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit ($105)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X 860MHZ 1GB ($190)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB ($58)
ODD: LG GH22NS50 Black 22X SATA DVD Writer OEM ($28)
PSU: Corsair TX650W 650W ($80)
Case: Antec Three Hundred Mini Tower Gaming Case 300 ATX ($54)

Total: $694 plus taxes and shipping

Is this system balanced? What would you upgrade / downgrade to make this a better balanced gaming PC?

Looks pretty good to me.
Also consider the X2 550 processor. I just unlocked a couple of them to quad cores using that same MB (make sure it's the rev 2.0 version though)
DC is for sure shipping the rev 2's...not sure about NCIX

Thanks for the great feedback.

I looked at DirectCanada and the free shipping will help a lot. The prices are great too!
I will definitely consider the X2 550 processor & a cheaper case.

@Kayen: Where do you see cheaper HD5770s? Looking for XFX or Sapphire.

The biggest question mark in my mind is still the MOBO and RAM. I specced the GA-MA770-UD3 with DDR3 RAM. I don't think that even works. Should I get DDR2 RAM for this MOBO or look at getting the GA-770TA-UD3 or GA-MA770T-UD3P with DDR3 RAM? What is the difference between all these MOBOs? It looks like the price of DDR2 ram is trending up and DDR3 ram is trending down so perhaps I want to spend an extra $20 on a MOBO that I can add some DDR3 RAM in the future.

Also, what brand of RAM should I be looking at? G skill? patriot? ocz?

Thank You!

ho boy I'm really not the one to ask for AMD , but one thing for sure the GA-MA770-UD3 work only with DDR2

Oops, yeah missed that in the OP.
If you're going DDR3 you want the MA770T-UD3P, not the UD3.

I would change the hard drive to a WD Black 640 GB. The platters are more dense, and it will give you a bit better performance (and a little bit more room).
