Turns out NewEgg aren't very lenient on their 30-day return policy, especially considering the time of year. Even though technically I've had the board for 4 days, they go by the ship date which was way back in November. That is one of the pitfalls of online ordering.

Anyway, I've contacted ASUS and will be RMA'ing the board. Hopefully we can get it all sorted out.

At least you're already benchmarking your i5 setup, johnny.

Well, I got word from ASUS today: damaged/bent cpu socket pin. Doh! I'm sure I was careful but who's to say?

Anyway, replacement board is on it's way even though it will cost me a pretty penny.

Overclocking would not bend a CPU socket pin... And the issue with the Foxconn sockets was only when EXTREME overclocking was done, like with LN2.

For those waiting with bated breath here is an update.

Rec'd replacement mobo from ASUS the other day. One week turnaround is pretty good, imo. Mobo arrived in complete packaging so now I have two of every accessory.

Built up the i5 system last night and everything is working perfectly now. Just need to update video drivers and then run some benchmarks before trying some overclocks. WEI scores (not that it matters) remain exactly the same as the Q6600 build.

In the process of building up the new system I discovered the error of my ways in the resulting bent socket pin. I had the retention clamp on the HSF orientated in the wrong direction which caused the heavy fan to lean one way thereby bending pins on one side of the socket. Apparently reading those little instruction manuals do come in handy.

I shall post benchmarks and oc results later.

Well, I for one have found their CS to be quite good. And I've never had problems with ASUS boards in the past. I would not call the EVO board 'cheap' either.
