I7 860 Cooling and GPU

I start to build my new I7, here the spec

Antec twelve hundred
maximus III formula
I7- 860
2 * Intel X-25 SSD in raid 0
500 Gb Black

This build will be use for web design, so photoshop, dreamweaver and co. may be some gaming too.
I will not OC, exept may be the time too try the OC Windows Software of the board and the ROG link to a laptop.
So I need a Heat Sink, but I'm not after OC record
Finally I will not go with eyefinity, probably a 24" with 1 or 2 22" , one will be portait . I was thinking 2 GPU , with posibility of SLI or X fire, with a preference for SLI, ( I already have a 4890 in an other build )

So what will be a nice GPU and Cooler for it.

I know this board is a little bit overkill for my need.

Well for what you want to do my friend I would sugest a 5850 or 5870 and maybe wait for the prolimatech GPU cooler to get out or the arctic cooling accelero that fit on these card is a must have. I ever use accelero and they never died on me or disapoint me.

This works perfectly for me: NCIX.com - Buy Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 LGA1366 LGA775 LGA1156 120MM - RR-B10-212P-GP In Canada.

That 860 will do great for Folding, easy 20,000+ PPD with a mild OC doing the -bigadv WU's.

A pair of 250GTS's would give you another easy 12,000+ PPD...

@ Martin : I have already something similar with my 4890, I want something different, and with SLI

@ LCB001, My I5 have a 212+ very satisfy,

I guess I'm better sleep , may be I will have an idea in the morning.

One of these, they are not lokking like what you already have and a GTS 250 in sli it should be nice and good priced.
NCIX.com - Buy ASUS GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256BIT DDR3 HDMI DVI-I VGA Video Card - ENGTS250/DI/512MD3 In Canada.

Accelero are looking good, the Asus look like a toy . anyway I don't want the noisy squirel cage of the stock one. I try games for the last 6 month , I spent hundred of $, and aside of the first Stalker I have no interest. So I guess my 4890 will serve me well for a will for the gaming, let's focus on my web design ...I don't feel I have to spend $ 500 on a 5870 for this. When I said Photoshop. it's nothing heavy. but I want 512 mb per LCD. so it have to be 2 * 1GB card.

I have 2 like this on my Skeleton ,
Newegg.ca - POWERCOLOR SCS3 AX4650 512MD2-S3H Radeon HD 4650 512MB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

with a Noctua

Noctua.at - sound-optimised premium components "Designed in Austria"!

the look are very good. a lot of fins and the big fan on top of the skeleton cool well thos powercolor, this is my XP cad station. but I need more power for my I9 , what about nvidia 260 or 250

martin_metal_88 December 16, 2009 10:08 PM

250 would be better. You can put only one and add another later or wait for the 300 series to came out. 260 are rare now and most of the time the one you find are pricey so...250...

any particular reason you would prefer NVIDIA? have you ever compared the 2D output of NVIDIA to ATI?

for myself-only interested in 2D work-ATI is the only option. my eyes damn near bleed after working for a few hours with NVIDIA GPUs. this has been the case for a long time for me on a number of different monitors. considering the primary role of this machine is for web design, 2D output should be your primary concern.

The 250's run nice and quiet even with the stock cooler.
I've been impressed with the 2 BFG OC ones I have and you certainly won't here them over the fans of a Antec 1200, I don't....
$138.77 @ PC Cyber Canada - For All Your Computer Needs .

They have the 1GB models also...

oh boy an other problem.... no reason for Nvidia a side of been my only SLI board I want to give it a try. But something tell me that I should believe you, so I have to reconfigure my setup. I can switch the cpu with my other I5 PC , and use the other one for WS, butt the 7 premium is already install on it and I need 7 pro for my domain , the WS will have my 2 new SSD too, I don't feel to reinstall the 7 , it's already 2 time I change ( not duplicate ) it from 1 pc to the other one i will have also to call Ms. Since I'm not too much in gaming I think I will just drop the SLI thing ...

I will came you back on the choice of my LCD, you look to have experience with what I want to do
