My System Specs

Default Gotta decide soon - i5 750 or phenom 720?

Hi guys, I've been shopping around and I'm down to 2 options, one that splits again down 2 routes, all prices including shipping/tax/etc...

i5 750 and P7P55D for $340
or
Phenom 720 (unlocked) and M4A785TD-V EVO for $217

I was originally going to go with a athlon 620 and ma79xt-ud4p or something, but then noticed that some guy was selling OEM 720's for the same price, so then jumped at that, and just now I found a nice deal on a i5 750. I really don't have a strict 'budget' for this since I've convinced my parents to let me flex it a bit, but I'd like to keep things within the "bang-for-buck" perspective. And about that 720.. this guy says all of his chips can unlock, but I'm not too sure about that... sound like bluffing. He told me he knows a guy that works for AMD so he just gets bins of 10 chips at oem price and resells it.

Not planning on multi-gpu, but I do have a tx750... could be a consideration if I find a good deal on a 5850 in the future. I've got a hyper 212+, should be enough to get the 750 to 4.0

So yea, shoot me your opinions and advice for this 16 year old dude that wants to start gaming again

For gaming? The 720. Spend the extra on a better GPU. Don't buy from ncix though ;)

haha yea lol going all local now, thanks

It'll be a gaming rig for sure, but some multi-threaded games are seeing the light of day (even if they are ported from xbox), I am leaning towards the phenom 720, I'll have to see how that dealer is though, he's not to thrilled about delivering and sounds a bit if-y... I'll see, he's calling me tomorrow afternoon

I was considering getting the i5 just so I could say "hey guys, look at me! I've got an i5 at 4ghz!" but you do have a really good point, sell my sp216 and raise $300 from the savings for a 5850... I'll have to contact the fleabay seller though since I've already won the p7p55d lol

edit: Another question, M4A785TD-V EVO for $111 or M4A79XTD Evo for $125?

Unless you need the processing power, just get the Phenom II. Much better in terms of bang for buck.

Why not buy from NCIX??

I'll go for the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO. Check the review on the home page of HWC.

omg lol don't mention that anymore I wasn't planning on ending it like that, now I wanna just let it die away and forget about it... but then some smart guy decides to come and bump it again

I've just gotta wait until tomorrow now, gotta hear from the fleabay seller if he's willing to cancel my p7p55d that I bought on impulse after looking at the pricetag, and I've also gotta make sure that the 720 actually does unlock lol

You talking about the price matching? There's too much to read....
