Question First build, 1600$ budget, i7 860.. suggestion? would it work

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Heavy computation programs like matlab, simulink + extensive gaming

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
1300 - 1600$

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada, I think.. I am liking BestDirect.ca so far, I guess they are in Canada.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
Big time Intel Fanboy, the other things I don't have a preference

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Keyboard, probably a second monitor, speakers.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
been researching for a while

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
default at first, don't mind overclocking if I feel like it's needed.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Soon ! in the holidays

I've put together this list, but I am not sure if it would work...

- CPU
Intel Core i7 860 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.8GHZ Hyperthreading 8MB Cache

- MOBO
Intel DP55KG Extreme Series ATX LGA1156 P55 DDR3 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 SLI Crossfire Motherboard

- Video card
Diamond Radeon HD 5870 850MHZ 1GB GDDR5 4.8GHZ 2XDVI HDMI Display Port DIRECTX11 PCI-E

- RAM
G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ PC3-10666 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

- PSU
OCZ StealthXStream 700W ATX12V 20/24PIN Active PFC ATX Power Supply 120MM Fan Black

- Monitor
ASUS VH236H 23 Widescreen LCD Monitor Black 1920X1080 16:9 2MS 20000:1DC HDMI DVI VGA with Speakers

- DVD Writer
Samsung SH-S223L/BEBS 22X SATA Black DVD Writer Lightscribe OEM

- Keyboard
Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard Black Silver Programmable Backlit Keys USB

- HDD
Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 7200RPM 4.2MS 32MB 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive OEM

- Case
Compucase 6BRBBB Mid-Tower ATX Case Black 3X5.25 2X3.5 4X3.5INT No PS Front USB Audio eSATA

- Heat sink
Genius G950 Multi Socket Desktop CPU Cooler 4 Aluminum HeatPipes LGA1156 1366 775 AM3 AM2+ AM2

My reasoning for the 860 instead of the 920 is I want the fastest for computation hungry applications like matlab. For the Intel mobo is that 1. I like intel ! 2. I want maximum compatibility, 3. I like the bluetooth idea. the HD 5870, is it's great riviews and compared to the GTX ones, for its price it looks very good

What do you guys think ??
Thanks in advance !!! :)

I think you should spoil your new parts with a nicer case.

+1 to that. I've never used one of those cases, but for a couple more bucks & the same basic look and a better build I would get an Antec 300 Buy ANTEC [THREE HUNDRED] Antec Three Hundred Mini Tower Gaming Case 300 ATX 3X5.25 6X3.5INT No PS Front USB & Audio

Also this is a proven cooler + cheaper Buy COOLERMASTER [RR-B10-212P-GP] Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 LGA1366 LGA775 LGA1156 120MM

Have fun and good luck with your build.

That's ugly IMO, and in terms of cable management, it's bad.

Maybe something like those:

Buy COOLERMASTER [SGC-6000-KXN1-GP] Coolermaster Storm Sniper Black Edition Mid Tower ATX Case Black 5X5.25 5X3.5INT 1X2.5 No PSU

Buy COOLERMASTER [SGC-2000-KKN1-GP] Coolermaster Storm Scout Black ATX Tower Case 5X5.25 5X3.5INT 120MM & 140MM Red LED Fan No PSU

Oh, and if it's possible, don't get the Diamond brand 5870, it has the worst customer service for ATI brand video cards, anything else would be better, especially XFX.

Thanks everyone for the input.. Here are the changes:

Case:Coolermaster Storm Scout Black ATX Tower Case 5X5.25 5X3.5INT 120MM & 140MM Red LED Fan No PSU [thanks rapmaster]

Heat sink:Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 LGA1366 LGA775 LGA1156 120MM [Thanks misterd]

[edit] For the graphics card, I am thinking about this now, if you say the Diamond is bad..
SAPPHIRE 100282SR Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card w/ATI Eyefinity - Retail This way would also save a 100$
