Here's what I have and use it primarily for web-graphic design...Would love hear suggestions or advice on what\not to upgrade that would be beneficial for my Web -biz

Present: AMD X4 940 BE 3.0Ghz--MSI K9N2 SLi-Plat Mobo- WD Velo-Raptor 150G HDD--7G DDR2 Pc6400--Nvidia 8500GT 1G DDR2 Vid

Looking to upgrade to: AMD X4 965 3.4Ghz--Gigabyte MA-790FXT UD5P Mobo--OCZ Vertex 60G SSD-- 6G DDR3 1666 Ram--NVidia GT220->250 DDR3 1G video..

The PS-DW CS4 graphic stuff can be pretty intensive..so i want something that will fly and work...Any real-life supplements-suggestions appreciated..when I do the upgrade ..look to F\S section on my present components:-))

I use PS CS4 Extended & Dreamweaver CS4 as well. You definitely want the CPU, memory, and that SSD if you plan to have the apps installed on that drive. The video card is kind of moot for this sort of work. Obviously ensure you're using a 64-bit o/s which is likely since you're planning 6GB of ram anyway. Personally I'd throw the remaining budget into one or two large displays (I use 24" & 22" in dual setup) and a nice graphics tablet if you don't have one already.

^ CPU/RAM? not so much. SSD? Definitely as long as o/s and main apps are installed on it.

Just overclock the CPU.

What you're doing is pretty much a parallel upgrade, besides the SSD and GPU. And you're actually giving up 7GB of RAM for 6GB instead.

For your applications, a 790FX board isn't really necessary. I'd get a 790X, since the only real difference is the PCI-E lanes. Also, the 965 is just a 955 with a higher multiplier, and since the 955's multiplier is unlocked, there's no real reason to get a 965 unless you're not overclocking...which is stupid. I'd say get a 955 and a decent cooler, then OC it up way past 965 specs.

Imo, overclocking is best left to gaming rigs. For 'professional' type work applications I'd rather rely on stability and longevity and just leave the system at default speeds. I have a gaming rig (sig) and CAD workstation left at stock settings for work-related tasks.

But that's just my two pennies.

Why not a better Nvidia GPU??? (some please correct me) but i thought the apps you were using could be GPU accelerated.... I would upgrade the 8500GT to a GTX260.

^Photoshop or Dreamweaver will not benefit from some uber gaming card. The card should be powerful enough to run whatever size and res of display being used but that's about it. Basically a sub-$100 video card would be enough. GPU accelaration will come into play if working in 3D applications and only for on-screen view manipulation where lots of polygons are being displayed.
