Default New Desktop in a lonnnnnng time

The last time I had a desktop was back in 2004 and have used a laptop ever since...

I think it's time to build a fast machine with a nice monitor.

I am planning to buy a new rig and here are the parts...

Core i7 920
Dominator rams (Which ones?)
WD Caviar black 1TB
HD5870 or GTX295 (Maybe like GTX260, until GTX300's come out)
Antec 902 case
Corsair TX750 PSU
EVGA x58 3x sli ? classified?
etc.....

I am trying to buy this rig at the time of Aberdeen NCIX Grand Opening or the Online sales they got through the week. What do you think about my build? Any opinions about changes you'd make to this set-up?

If you are going to got for the biggest of the GT300 or the 5870, I'm pretty sure they wont fit in 902. GTX 275 is already fitting flush so bigger card can be an issue.

I assume you don't have a budget?

You're on the right track, however you can save a bit of cash too. Also, NCIX has a special at the new store if you live anywhere near there. You can get a free copy of Windows 7 Home Premium if your purchase is over $1000 (easy for what you want).

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA X58 SLI LE ATX LGA1366 DDR3 4PCIE-16 PCI-E1 1PCI SATA2 Sound Dual GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - 141-BL-E757-TR In Canada. -- EVGA makes some great boards and has a great warranty. I recommend them any day.
NCIX.com - Buy Intel Core i7 920 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 2.66GHZ Bloomfield 8MB LGA1366 4.8GT/S - BX80601920 In Canada.
RAM is up to you. Dependent on speed and aesthetics mostly. Corsair, G.Skill and OCZ are good choices. I recommend DDR3-1600.
NCIX.com - Buy Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 7200RPM 4.2MS 32MB 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive OEM - WD1001FALS In Canada.
The TX750W is a great PSU, but if you don't like the cable clutter, try and find a good deal on the HX750W.
Case is up to you. 902 is alright, but there are other options out there. Don't be afraid to ask! I loved my low budget CM 690 case.
The HD5870 will be more than enough to handle games of today and the future for a while. However they are usually never available due to yield problems at TSMC. Perhaps grabbing a GTX 260 or similar is a good idea until they become more available.
In terms of a monitor the Philips Brilliance 240PW9EB is a great monitor. No HDMI or DP, but it's an inexpensive IPS panel. Dell also has sales of their own from time to time as well.

Good luck finding your parts! I hope this has helped a little.

Martin_metal I think you're right too. The 5870 would be a tight fit. You'll have to go with a bigger case. I'm sure that the GTX300 cards will be roughly the same size too.

I will take a look today at job for the size of the ATX bay in three and nine hundred ( 902 is same ) and I will see if they are able to fit a so long card. If there is a hard drive it's not for sure. without hard drive or placed anywhere except in front of the card, maybe but...wait for confirmation;)

YouTube - #1051 - Antec Nine Hundred Two (902) Case Video Review
At 3 min 43 sec it's wright that the case support 10.5 inch video card but nothing mean it can support higher. It's sure if you put the internal fan the card wont fit. I take a look later and I give you more news from a real case.

GTX 285 fits in a 902 and it's 10.5" long.

EDIT : Typo on the length of the card.

I have take the mesure at job for a nine hundred 2 and it's like 11.1 inch long in the interior. Will it fit, we will see soon I think.

How about the Coolermaster Haf 922 Mid Tower Atx Case here
Coolermaster Haf 922 Mid Tower Atx Case Black 5X5.25 5X3.5INT Front Audio Usb Esata No Psu - DirectCanada

And its a great price. Quite a bit cheaper than the 902 and you can PM down to $85:00 at NCIX. I just got this case from NCIX.
There is 13inches of play for a Video card in the Haf 922 case.
Hope that helps
