Default CPU Upgrade

So basically I'm still running an overclocked Core 2 E7200 system with 1x 4870 1GB.

The question is simple, IS IT worth it AT THIS POINT IN TIME to grab a Quad (Maybe a Q9550?) If so, which one (again Q9550? or any other suggestions) If not, why?

The system I'm using IS in my sig right now, and if I move to a 24" monitor (1920x1200 OR something in Full HD) will my 1GB 4870 still be adequate? Will a move to something like a 5850 or even a 5870 (or whatever NVIDIA will have to offer) be a good idea for the next year to 2 years compared to spending over 1k on an i5/i7 build?

The main reason is my system is able to do everything I want it to, but I find it lacking in the multitasking area.

Sorry put this in the wrong thread, if someone could move it that would be awesome.

I'd say, if you have the funds, grab an i5 and p55 motherboard.

But that would require RAM as well, did some research if I go with i5 + P55 + DDR3 and keep my 4870 1GB, HX520, my Element G, and CD drives + hard drive (which I would have to format AGAIN, as I just upgraded to 7) it would set me back around

NCIX.com - Buy Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.66GHZ 8MB Cache Retail Box - BX80605I5750 In Canada. - $234.99
NCIX.com - Buy ASUS P7P55D Pro LGA1156 P55 DDR3 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 PCI SLI CrossFireX 6SATA GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - P7P55D PRO In Canada. - $188.27
NCIX.com - Buy G.SKILL F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24 Triple Channel Memory Kit - F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ In Canada. - $150

Not sure what RAM is good/best, are Dominators still good? Or should I stick with G.Skill?

That would set me back around $537 before TAX, whereas if I were to just get a new CPU (Q8400 for example) it would be around $205.
NCIX.com - Buy Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Quad Core Processor LGA775 2.66GHZ 1333FSB 4MB Retail Box - BX80580Q8400 In Canada.

And maybe whatever else it would cost for me to get a new video card sometime in the future (5850 would be around $300 from NCIX).

I am planning on overclocking if I decide to go i5; I already have a Noctua NH-U12P so all I'll have to do is ask Noctua for the LGA1136 mounting kit.

Will a Corsair HX520 be enough for this system? If not I can always grab an HX650 but only if I really have to.

I5 or I7 absolutely!!! Sell the old Rig...
Upgrading to a Quad Core from a Duo Core may be the cheapest upgrade but you won't notice anything significant.

In that case I'll go i5. I can probably reuse my P45 motherboard in my dad's system since he's still using a Pentium D system.

Just a quick note, the ram you posted above is a triple channel set designed for the 1366 i7 series. You want to go with duel channel sets such as:
G.SKILL F3-12800CL8D-4GBTD Trident PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL8-8-8-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit ~$115 if you price match.

Only thing is that the head spreaders are fairly tall and may interfere with some aftermarket heat sinks. Also, for the rest of your stuff make sure that you price match.

You can put triple channel modules in, but they will only work in dual channel mode on the P55 board. Handy if you have triple channel ram already.
