htpc media server
I was looking for suggestions on this build before I purchase,

It will be bought from ncix as they are local and price matching
It will run wmc and have two extenders on it, wdtv or pch that will all be playing simultaneously
It will act as netwark server for all family photos, dvds, music, maybe raid someday
It will be used to surf, rip dvds/cds, stream broadcasts from ctv ect.
It will not have a tuner card or dvr now, maybe later
It will be connected vga to a projector and small moniter (no 1080p yet)
It may be just a server in future, so mobo, case, psu needs full ATX and integrated gpu, 6 hard drives
budget between 900 and 1100 I guess
Only 1 computer in house right now (wife's laptop) so this will be my main rig

-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64BIT
-AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHZ 7MB Cache
-Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H ATX
or MA785GT if I go with DDR3?????
-Silverstone Lascala LC17B 2X5.25 1X3.5 6X3.5INT W/ 2X80MM Case Fan
or Silverstone Lascala LC20 ($15 more) for the remote but I hear imon isnt good????
-Seasonic SS-400ET 400W
is this enough for future 6 hard drives 1-2TB green wd???? should I go modular????
-Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200RPM 32MB
this is for the OS and programs, the one they have is sata not sataII, difference???
I am also contemplating spending 120 more for :
OCZ Summit 60GB 2.5IN SATA2 Solid State Flash Drive SSD W/ 128MB Cache
worth it???
-Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache
for storag
-LG GH22NP20 Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 DL 16X/12X 2MB IDE OEM
going with IDE connector to save 6th sata for hdd, is this a mistake??, 2nd 5.25" external can be used for future bluray as I have no 1080p tv yet.
-Corsair VS4GBKIT800D2 PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit not even sure if this RAM will work, pretty sure I want 4GB not sure if I need more than 800 as I don't game or overclock, leaning toward DDR3 for future proofing, any suggestions here would be great.

Look good to me. If under vista or 7 for the laptop use WMP or WMP to share eveything. It's easier then making a private sharing network. A ssd is a little waste of money IMO. Your HTPC wont need the extra speed of it and if no gaming or thing like that you wont really benefit of it. Get a little hard drive like laptop one or a WD 500 black or you can put the money for extra power on the CPU for longer last build.

Look very good to me, but may I advise to you that DDR2 memory prices are going nowhere but up. I would strongly recommend getting an AM3 motherboard with a cheap pair of DDR3-1333 sticks.

looks good .that is pretty much what im running in my htpc,i use as my main pc to 80% of the time .
i needed mATX and went DDR3 im glad i did,and the SSD is super ,it works well with it
the price difference between ddr2 and ddr3 are so minimal ATM you can get a 4 gb kit for 100, less if you mail the rebates ,somthing i never seem to do :haha:
