Default Started a new Build

my first post here, I have been trying to put off my upgrade for the new Mechwarrior game but I can't wait any longer, my drives are reaching EOL, video card is older than the hills x1650 and my trust never failed 3800+ is just too slow all running on an Asus A8N-E board.

I just ordered the first of the parts, since ncix had a few great deals:

Corsair TX750W PSU
Samsung SH-S223L/BEBS 22X SATA Black DVD Writer Lightscribe
Thermaltake Element S case

I can at least run the cables the way I want and decide on proc mobo video card and ram later. I am leaning toward an i5, 4gb DDR3, and video card, I don't know, 4890, 4700? gaming, sometimes but mostly watching H.264 720p or 1080p. Maybe get a cheaper video and wait for Mechwarrior to release specs and go for an upgrade from there? The Native resolution of my new Samsung Syncmaster 2243 is 1920x1080,

Comments/suggestions are more than welcome.

What is your budget ?
What do you need exactly ? Keyboard, mouse, monitor, o/s, speakers, etc.

So you game from time to time, what games do you play ?

I haven't set a budget but I want it to be something that isn't too expensive. Games I play right now on the PC is guild wars, and not too often at that, other than that I don't game much, but now I want something to could game if I wanted to. I play most of my games on the PS3 right now and use my PC for entertainment, right now my X1650 running 720p, ok but with hiccups and 1080p is just well, forget it!

I will need a new keyboard and mouse (I like illuminated keys), I have Windows 7 coming to me, I need a mobo (asus preferably), proc, ram.

I know this doesn't help much, lol

You could get this i5 750 combo (Intel i5 750, Gigabyte P55-UD3R, G.Skill DDR3-1600 2x2gb) for 449.99

For the GPU, you have many choices ranging from the HD4890, GTX 275 or HD5870. Those are the ones I would possibly suggest. The last one being very new and would surely be plenty to play the new Mechwarrior.

For HDD, I would think a WD Caviar Black would be a good choice.

I personally love my Logitech illuminated keyboard, but you may prefer a keyboard like the Logitech G11 or the G15.

As for mouse, I am less knowledgeable. Once more I like my OCZ Equalizer.

I just finished ordering the rest of my system. Oh boy my wife will hang me when the bill comes in. She should be proud, I saved some money.

Power Supply: Corsair TX750W
DVD Burner: Samsung SH-S223L/BEBS 22X SATA Black DVD Writer Lightscribe
Case: Thermaltake Element S
Keyboard / Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Desktop Laser 6000

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200RPM 32MB Dual Proc 3.5IN SATA Hard Drive OEM 5YR Mfg Warranty + I already have a WD green 1TB drive I am using.
Video Card: Powercolor Radeon HD 4670 PCs 750MHZ 1GB 1.746GHZ GDDR3 2XDVI TV-OUT PCI-E Video Card *IR-$15*

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.66GHZ 8MB Cache Retail Box
Memory: Corsair XMS3 CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 4GB DDR3 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24 Core I5 Dual Channel Memory Kit
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D LGA1156 P55 DDR3 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 3PCI 7SATA CrossFire GBLAN 8CHANNEL Audio Motherboard

The memory I found on newegg.ca at a considerable lower price than NCIX, so I used the price match feature. I also found the processor cheaper by $20 or so and price matched that as well. I am using the stock cooler for now, I don't plan any OCing for quite a while. At least my case has a cutout on the backside in case I want to change my cooler but the 200mm, 120mm should assist with cooling.

I am hoping this system won't disappoint. I am upgrading from an Asus A8N-E, 2gb DDR, ATI X1650, AMD X2 3800+ so it should be a nice upgrade. :)

I have pics of the start of the build but I will have to figure out some way to post them up here.

Thanks for Reading,
Jeff

IMO, i5 is overkill for that [relatively] weak 4670. A phenom II x3 would have done the trick for less coin.

I think I read somewhere that the stock cooling on i5 sucks. You might want to look into that.

I agree with John Wayne, 4670 1GB bit weak for that setup.

I just added a cheap video card since all I really do is watch movies and video. I plan on getting something better down the road.

Oh ok, makes sense. Although the integrated graphics on the p55 chipset would have been more than enough.

Hmm. No.

The P55 chipset does not have any onboard graphics.

OP, you should see a nice improvement over your old rig, but don't expect too much of that GPU (4670).
