Corei7 build - $1900 CAD budget - Can I improve?

• Want to start purchasing parts now to take advantages of MIRs ending September. The MIRs add up to $82
• Using the system for gaming, web, video encoding (minidv to dvd).
• Separate budget ($1200) for monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS, speakers, Nvidia 3D glasses
• May dabble in OC'ing but won't be pushing things as the norm
• Needs to be NVidia card as I want to use the NVidia 3D Vision Kit; Subsequently getting a Sumsung 22" 2233RZ
• Will SLI in future (waiting to see happens in next few weeks from NVidia and then wait for prices to come down a bit; Would be a year before I upgrade)
• Would prefer to use Canada computers but not critical

1 x Either the Cosmos S or ATCS 840 or soething else. Both are around $250
1 x Core i7 920 ($350)
1 x Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P ($261 after $20 MIR)
2 x Patriot 1333MHz 6GB (9-9-9-24) (Total cost for two kits - $253.77 after $40 MIR)
1 x Cosair CMPSU-850TX ($157.67 after $22 MIR)
1 x 1TB WDC Black ($111)
1 x Samsung SH-S223F ($40)
1 x BFG GeForce GTX 285 - 666Mhz ($412)

Questions...

• CHASSIS: I love the two cases I mention but cognizant of the size. I will upgrade over time but don't need full tower just for the sake of it. Will cases like the CM690 hold this stuff OK and still be future proof size wise? Any other recommended?
• RAM: I see for a total of $16 more I can get the same RAM @ 7-7-7-20. Is it even worth it or is it throwing money away?
• PSU: More than enough or too much? Will the CMPSU-750TX work and be good future wise?

I say. Big case is a must have for long durability. I got myself the ATCS 840 and I plan to keep it for 5 or 6 years. I can put any part I want in, even if the enxt gen are bigger and bigger, Also room to put a second PSU ( with some mod ) if even more power needed. Seriously, go big, It cost less to put 250 now compare to put 100 now 100 in two years and 100 in 3 years. Only 1 question, you say 1333 Mhz 6GB X2? but, witch brand? Try to stay with god one, G.skill, Mushkin, Corsair, Patriot.

Ask for more.

^^^^ Excellent comment on the Case Martin, couldn't agree more. I would also suggest going with a decent 3 x 2GB Kit of 1600 Mhz RAM instead of 1333 Mhz...makes more sense if you do decide to start OC'ing that I7.

Save up a few more bucks and buy a SSD drive for your O/S drive! You'll love it!

Haha, I see that we have another big case lover here:P nice to hear Rj More about Rj comment. 1600 ram will give you more space for OC and will OC better in most case.

+1 to 1600 6GB instead of 1333 12GB

Yeah Martin my 2nd Rig is in my old Raidmax Smilidon Case....tiny compared to this TJ09...gotta love all that room (more room to clutter things up with more stuff) ;)
I highly recomend an I7 build going in a full size tower, especially if multi GPU's are being considered !!

Full case is also good for airflow. ATX case with huge video card much of the time cut the airflow from the down fan and most of the time they only have 1 front fan so. In a full ATX case, you have place between the vid card and 3.5 5.25 drive bay :)
