My System Specs

Default New Gaming/Folding Build

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
-Gaming, Folding, nothing else besides browsing and small apps.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
- I'd like to keep it under $1500

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
- Canada eh?

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
- Intel, Nvidia (have to for folding), EVGA

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
- HX1000

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Yep

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Yep

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
1-3 weeks

I've already picked out the case - Silverstone Raven -01, $205 at bestdirect and own my PSU. Besides that I have nothing to work with. I'm looking to go x58.

PSU - HX1000 - already own
Case - Raven - $205.70 - Buy Silverstone Technology [RV01B-W] Silverstone Raven RV01B-W Black E-ATX Case 5X5.25 6X3.5INT No PS W/ Window

Mobo - EVGA X58 - $288.75 - EVGA X58 ATX LGA1366 DDR3 3PCIE-16 PCI-E1 2PCI SLI SATA2 Sound Dual GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - DirectCanada
HD - 640GB WD Black - $73.55 - Buy Western Digital [WD6401AALS] Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200RPM 32MB Dual Proc 3.5IN SATA Hard Drive OEM 5YR Mfg Warranty
DVD drive - $24.99 - Premier Computer Canada
HS - Hyper 212+ - $25.30 - Buy COOLERMASTER [RR-B10-212P-GP] Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 LGA1366 LGA775 LGA1156 120MM
Ram - 6 gigs of ddr3, 1600 - Waiting for a sale maybe wednesday?
Video card - I do want to go SLI/TRI SLI eventually, but for now I'll stick with 1 card. Maybe just get a used one here or if any good deals come up. Looking to spend no more than $200 as I'll be selling it in the near future.

Basically, I'm mostly concerned with the Motherboard as I want as many x16 slots as possible. Are there any boards that run 16x/16x/16x?

you could get an xfx 4890 1gb for $212 from directcanada or PM at NCIX
that would be powerful and cheap and brand new instead of going the used route

just what I would do

How's this?

920 D0 $ 336
DVD $ 24.99
212+ $ 25.30
Mobo EVGA X58 SLI LE $ 258.80, all black!
Mobo EVGA X58 SLI $ 289.99 after MIR
OCZ 6Gb DDR3 1600MHz CL7 $ 139.99 after MIR About the cheapest you can go. Decent sticks but high performers(???)
BFG GTX 260 $ 173.28 - 216 Cores

Lemme know what you think!

I know the Classified 759 w NF200 provides this, not sure if the Classified 760 does or not...(I'm pretty sure it doesn't as no NF200)...in real life ops not a biggie imo!

I asked on the EVGA forums, only the older versions and the new 4x SLI board have it. Since that's the case, might as well go for the LE or regular? I like the looks of the LE better tbh!

I tried to grab one of lowfats 4890's but I think he's got them sold :( The 260 looks to be perfect for the price. I think the memory should be fine as long as it's 1600.

I have the Evga SLI LE and the slots are x16 - x8 - x4 - x8. For folding the lanes should not make a difference but for SLI or Tri-SLI it could. There is a lot of different opinions out there on weather the x8 / x8 SLI is bandwidth limiting. I don't have concrete data to say it isn't but intuitively I would say it could be a factor.

Some good research should be in order, but other than that I must say I am very happy with the board... rock solid and easy to control. Oh yeah, and sexy too!

Why not drop i7 for i5? save some money on the cpu/motherboard and spend it on the video cards?

A new EVGA SLI P55 motherboard is only 219 or something like that, add the hyper threading i7 860 and a nice 2000mhz G.Skill ramkit and your set, the EVGA p55 motherboards allow for you to use your old LGA775 CPU cooler as well, and are preforming very well against the x58s. EVGA has a really nice line up of P55 motherboards coming out including a classified and a FTW 200 (like a low end classified) as well. Thats what I would do, in fact its what ill be doing this month =D But im going with the i5 750 since i have no need for hyperthreading at all, and its dirt cheap at $244 running the same stock clocks as a 920.

The I5 DDR3 sets are dirt cheep for their rated performance, the G.SKill DDR3 2000mhz kits are between $100 and $130 =O

Yeah I'd rather save myself any hassle now. I might as well go i5 like reality suggested if I can't get 3x16 anyways. Or the X58 EVGA board and have 2x16
