Default New upcoming build

Welp it's that time.. a friend of mine is offering me his 920 amd cpu but i need new ram and board... everything else I have.

One thing I have to keep in mind in tihs build is my raid0 card for the raptors... it's a pci-e 4x card... so with out that avaliable to me any other board is useless... i'm thinking of sli'ing my 285 so crossfirex boards are out.

This is the board and ram I'm looking at just wondering what others think here. TIA

we don't get many choices when it comes to AMD cpu and SLI boards

that board for $200 seems like the only way to go.

but at the asus site if 3 slot is used. the sli speed will be default to 8x

Don't matter about the 8X. PCI-e 8X is faster bus speed then your 285 so it won't bottleneck anything. Your cpu have more change to slow down the beast.

Ask for more.

here are some sli boards to consider,

MSI NF750-G55 AM3 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI HDMI ATX $109.99

ASUS M3N72-D AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI HDMI ATX $147.99

ASUS M4N72-E AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI ATX $149.99

If you get a board with ddr2 support then get this ram,

or if ddr3 is needed,

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 $87.49

some decent boards there to consider thanks for your post. I think the asus one I found covers everything i need it to including the raid card. I wish more boards came with pcie 4x slots tho... they aren't easy to find. Not too many AMD boys around here so I have no idea other than a couple reviews to go on. I thought PCI-E vid boards used the full 16x?

those 750a only supports 2 pcie 2.0

so your only choice for a 3 slot pcie 2.0 are the 780a and 980a.

and its a known facts that those nvidia chipsets don't overclock too well

with that x4 920 its definitely gonna bottle your gpus unless you can bring the cpu to 3.6ghz

sorry for been a party pooper

Hey it's not exactly what I want... but i need 2x pci and min 2x pci-e. If i wanna sli the vid cards I need 3x pci-e. I'm saving a bunch of money on the CPU... Not a lot of am2+ options out there. The one I picked is the 980a...

Welp I picked up the mobo and ordered the ram. I decided to go with the
OCZ 4GB PC2-9600 Flex EX XLC Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 2GB)

OCZ 4GB PC2-9600 Flex EX XLC Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 2GB) at Memory Express Computers

It's the fastest ddr2 I can find and offers a water cooling solution for overclocking.
The cpu I'm buying off Grinder AMD 920 phenom II
and the m4n82 Deluxe for the mobo as it's the only one out there that supports my current hardware config.

Braineater is gonna help me sort out the watercooling as the nipples on the ram are smaller than my current setup but we'll figure something out. I'll post some pics when it's all installed.

Apparently the mobo will allow ram to overclock to 1300mhz which is great! Looking forward to entering the overclocking club.
