Default New general use build

1. This will be a general use system, some gaming, I'm okay to spend a bit extra if it's worthwhile, but would prefer to avoid just blowing money on things that I don't need at all.

2. Somewhere around $500-600 would be ideal, but I can afford more if it will make a substantial difference.

3. I live in Canada, so parts should somehow eventually end up there.

4. I don't care about brands.

5. I have a GeForce 8800GTS that I plan on using for a while until I can spend more money upgrading it.

6. I basically based this on Techreport.com's suggestions.

7. I don't plan on overclocking.

8. This needs to be built sooner rather than later, I'm currently posting from a super old laptop that is starting to fail pretty fantastically.

Alright, here's what I was thinking of getting:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 ATX AM2+/AM3 AMD770 PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 RAID 1394 HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard

CPU: Amd Phenom Ii X3 720 Black Edition Triple Core Processor AM3 2.8GHZ 7.5MB Cache 95W 45NM Retail Box

Power Supply: Corsair TX650W 650W Atx 12V 52A 24PIN Atx Power Supply Active Pfc 120MM Fan

Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 7200RPM 4.2MS 32MB 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive Oem

Optical Drive: LG GH22NS50 Black 22X SATA DVD Writer OEM

Case: Antec Three Hundred Mini Tower Gaming Case 300 Atx 3X5.25 6X3.5INT No Ps Front Usb & Audio

RAM: Kingston KVR800D2N6K2/4G 4GB 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL6 240PIN DIMM Memory Kit

Total: $586.30 CAD, shipping = free.

This is all from Direct Canada, but I would obviously be fine ordering from elsewhere if I'm making a stupid mistake.

I would love to hear any input anyone had on this build!

Thanks!

For the price this ram is better:
G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit - DirectCanada
and for CPU:
You could possible down to an X2 550 to save some cash as well.
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Dual Core Processor Socket AM3 3.1GHZ 7MB Cache 80W Retail Box - DirectCanada

Also with an Antec 300 ,using the money save , change the PSU to a modular one .. to make cablemanagement a bit easier:
Corsair HX620W CMPSU-620HX ATX Triple 12V 50A 24PIN ATX Modular Power Supply 120MM Fan 2X PCI-E - DirectCanada

This seems like a pretty solid build. I would look at NCIX when you are about to purchase to see if there is a free shipping offer from there. You can use price match to get the best price and customer support is great. DirectCanada and NCIX are both related too.

I would suggest getting some G.Skill RAM like this: F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ

btw where are you located ?

Edit: Wow I am really slow.

Thanks to both of you!

I'll definitely switch to that RAM instead of the one that I had originally chosen, and I'll sleep on whether or not to switch to the modular power supply. I don't think that I'm making any major mistake, but it's always very helpful to get a second opinion.

I'm located in Ottawa.

Edit: The same build at ncix costs $648.63, so I'm pretty content with the way things are looking right now, I think.

yeah, I suggested NCIX because you can get the best prices available in Canada and make them Price Match it. Up to now, all of my price match have been accepted and I have only heard of them refusing them(when it was properly done) because it was below their costs.

I made an order the other day .. i turned a $100 order into a $50 order.
Love the pricematch.

Oh and you're going with the 300, you'll want to pick up 3 fans.
I'd suggest getting the GELID silent fans and pricematch them to $3.54 each. VERY HIGH QUALITY.

Okay, this is a really dumb question, but where is the "price match" button? The NCIX site says: "At the bottom of the checkout page, there is a Price Match button.", but I am apparently a moron.

If you haven't found it scroll down past the "may we Suggest" part.

On the view cart page, go at the very bottom of it. You will see a Start Price match button.
