My System Specs

Default Build for a friend.

Hey guys,

Doing a build for a friend and was wondering what you guys think of the components below. He's going to be using it mostly for web browsing, HD video play back and the occasional game. Buying parts local from Canada Computers because don,t want to deal with shipping.

Antec Sonata III
Arctic Cooling 120x120x25mm
Asus P5Q SE Plus
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 (OC)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
A-DATA DDR2 800 4GB
Sapphire ATI RADEON HD 4830
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB

Ditch the Sonata case and go with the Antec 300 + whatever decent PSU you want.

Thanks, that is an option I'll have to discuss with my friend. Part of the reason why I picked the Sonata is because he likes the look and he will be putting this in his living room connected to his TV and the HTPC cases are a no go. I'll see if he likes the 300 since it has better air flow.

The P5Q-EM might be a better board for him then. You should seriously look at it. It can output audio over it's HDMI and might be a one stop solution for his needs. It also has a PCIe slot that will handle a gpu.

There are 2 main problems with it. It seems to have a FSB issue where it won't go much further over 400FSB and some motherboards emit a bit of a squeal much like folding.... which is actually a beautiful sound and I recommend having dozens of machines squealing around you and... err...

More expensive for the P5Q-EM, don't need onboard video and the card above has HDMI port. Was looking for a cheaper option on MB, might go with the P5Q-SE since he doesn't need CF or Raid.
