Default Help for a weird build

OK, a new problem, a new thread,

SO, this time my mother wants a new computer cuz WinXP barely runs on her P3. It seems easy, but my mother wants.... a dual boot with Win98SE. She wants it, and i can't convice her to only use WinXP.

So, is it possible to make a new build that runs win98? I think not but, your knowledge is welcome. I know I could do a VM on her new build but I've tried it and can't get her apps (win98) to work on a win98 VM.

Thanks again guys!

Try harder! This is a good excuse to build her something better!! While it is probably possible I think a new build with 98SE is an exercise in futility.

I think that too but you knows, she has an old game (creature 3) that she never use and she absolutely wants to be able to run it so she will be able to not use it. The other solution is plugging two towers (one old 98 and one new xp) on the same screen using VGA and DVI port...

what is the specs of your mothers computer?
windows 98se is a way better OS then xp but it is so outdated I am not even sure if you can update the security in it, what you can do is go to the black viper website and look at the services settings there and turn off all of the services she doesn't need , you could most likely get them down to 17-20 services running which should improve her performance I think that winxp needs at least 256mb ram or maybe look into either a linux Operating system or windows 2000 which is a good Operating system also.
oh and yes you can esilly make winsdows 98 run with almost any build.

win98 runs just fine, but doesnt support usb keys, and on a newer build, doesn't support sata.

sure it supports usb Windows 98 USB Mass Storage Device Drivers and having sata is kind of pointless I don't really notice any huge difference the only reason I use sata is because of the availability.
ALso there is support for sata

useless or not, an ide new build is rare, almost everything now is sata. Ive tried to make those usb key work with 98 many times, downloaded many drivers, none of them ever worked

even if they worked, she's so stubborn she wants both 98 and Xp cuz she "needs" it...
