Default New avarage gaming build (little brother)

So yeah, as I recently purchased a monster rig my brother is getting a bit emo how his computer is pretty shitty, and he has a birthday coming up soon, so I was thinking I'd go ahead and buy him a new computer. Basically he plays call of duty a lot and is much into shooters, what I want to provide him with is a new brand new pc which he will be able to play the current shooters (on a pretty high setting) and the upcoming shooters like Rage, Modern Warfare 2 and such. It does not have to run the games on highest capacities, so anything on normal settings with a decent 60ish fps I'll be glad.
Budget is 600-800$.

Once again I'm really bad with computer parts and such so I'll be relying on you guys.

That's mighty generous of you- Can you offer a target budget?

My bad, I thought I did.

The budget is between 600$-800$, depending on what and how it streches.

Cut down prices even more if you want:
NCIX.com - Buy AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Dual Core Processor Socket AM3 3.1GHZ 7MB Cache 80W Retail Box - HDZ550WFGIBOX In Canada.
NCIX.com - Buy Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 ATX AM2+/AM3 AMD770 PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 RAID 1394 HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard - GA-MA770-UD3 In Canada.

It'll save you a good chunk of money, yet still give some good performance.

I had almost the same build that jcmaz listed in my shopping cart at NCIX- I was pondering the wonders of AMD budget performance.

*nod* AMD pcs are the cats ass for building up friends/family media stations and the like.

I just built a very similar rig for a friend, x2 550 BE, nearly the same gigabyte board, the 785 mATX one, in a mATX case. Using the integrated gfx, and the entire PC was <$500 and absolutly DESTROYS her old P4 rig. The new rig has Win7 on it too, and she loves it.

Id like to see AMD put out some higher end processors that can compete with Intel tho. I'm all for bleeding edge uber-tech

Change it to DDR2, to a ATI 4850 or NVIDIA GTS250 or GTX260 if you can find one for cheap.

I'd also do what Kayen said. However if you want to have at least a triple core, then stick with the Phenom II X3 710.

You can get a GTX 260 Core 216 for $186 if you're willing to stretch your budget a little bit.
