Planning to build i7 rig #2

So, i made a thread a couple of weeks ago,and now i'm making a version 2 of it.

I am planning on building a new i7 rig.

1. It will be used mainly for gaming, homework, music, email, movies, and other small tasks.

2. $3000-$3500 CAD

3. Buying parts from CANADA (TORONTO)

4. Brand, Intel Core i7, and nVidia GTX 260+ (Buying for temporary, so i can buy 300 series when it comes out)

5. Not planning on using any current parts.

6. I have researched and i have a few questions which i will post under this.

7. Planning to build in 1-2 weeks.


Case: Cooler Master HAF 932
Motherboard: EVGA X58 SLI LE
CPU: Intel i7 920
Video Cards: EVGA GTX 285 FTW Edition (I don't know if i need two or just one?)
RAM: OCZ 2000 MHz 6GB DDR3
HDD: 3x WD Cavier Black 640 GB in RAID 0 (or RAID 5, i don't which one would be better).
SDD: 2x OCZ Vertex 60GB In RAID0 for OS, apps, and games
Cooling: Cooler Master v10
Speakers: Logitech X-530 or Logitech Z5500
Headsets: Tritton AXPRO 5.1
Sound Card: Creative Labs X-fi Xtreme Audio
Power Supply: Enermax Revolution 1050W
Monitor: 22" Acer LCD Monitor (1680 x 1050). I will be upgrading to a Samsung T220HD 22" Monitor where i can get 1080p.

So, what you guys think of my version #2?

For the Video Cards, i plan on buying the new GT 300 series when it comes out, so is it wise for me to invest in such a good card right now and again later, or should i just buy a GTX 260 and save the money and buy the GTX 300 when it comes out?

Btw...i will be gaming alot (crysis, far cry 2, COD4 & 5 etc.)

After doing some research online, i was hit with a big question.

Will my sound card Fit into the PCIe x1 slot on my mobo if i have 2x GTX 285 or even in the future 2x GTX 300 series cards. Will it even fit in if i have a single GTX 260 right now, because all the cards are sooo fat.

A PCIe x1 card will work in any PCIe slot, even an x16 slot. So, unless you are filling all four slots you should be fine. The PCIe slots are all wired the same, the size does not always denote the lanes, as you have seen with the x8 and x4 lanes but an x16 slot. Fear not!

Very nice build....nice parts. Your 2 x 285 SLI Cards will be great and do you just fine until those new GTX 3xx Series Cards come down a little in price a few months after release. I wouldn't bank on seeing them until some time after Christams.

The CM V10 Cooler is a little overboard.

Go through NCIX and get this cooler instead.

Would this give me the same cooling as the CM v10 would?

I decided to go with the EVGA X58 Classified mobo to solidify my future upgrades (if and when i choose them).

The V10 just suck? any cooler like ultra 120 prolimatech megahalems OCZ vendetta 2 or nuctua NH-U12P will beat it even in passive. Look at the HWC V10 review and you will see what I am talking about;). The rest seems solid and well balanced build.

Ask for more.
