Help With Possibly Jumping Onto i7

Ok guys I move out in a week to College and i currently have a netbook with no desktop :(.. Im on a budget kinda but i don't care anymore.

Ive picked these parts out and could order them tonight possibly

Motherboard: EVGA X58 LE
Ram: Corsair XMS3 Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB 3x2GB 8-8-8-24
PSU: Corsair HX850w
GPU: EVGA GTX285 1GB (Already Own) Plan on getting another later on for SLi or just getting new series (GT300)
CPU: Core i7 920 or Core i7 920 D0 ?
Case: NZXT M59 or Antec 920 or Raven RV02 or New Lian-li Lancool

Or should i hold off and wait for the i5 and an EVGA P55 Motherboard? cause i think i7 stuff will go down in price with all these new things coming out for i5 series ? or will they stay the same?

Uses would be Gaming (cause i dont use console), Homework (for my course in college AutoCAD probbly some 3ds MAX and other drafting / CAD / 3d software) and for Media (HD movies, Music, Porn and browsing)

Please give some input !!! ill award NCIX points even im in a pickle here.

Save some money and get the HX750.
If you want value RAM get these
Everything else is up to you. Your case, your money. That GTX285 should last you a while though before you ever need to think about another card.

i7 and i5 are in different leagues. The most expensive i5 will barely be not as powerful as the cheapest i7, there are no expected price drops for i7 stuff either since i5 is meant to replace Core2 series. Get whichever i7 920 is cheaper at the time, if C0/C1 is, then snag that, if D0 is, snag that seeing as unless your OCing your CPU, it won't really matter what revision you will be getting.

ill refuse anything ocz now lol i dont like their junk my 750w psu messed up and they OC their ram stock and tell you to over volt it just to run their advertised speeds....

The HX850 on Direct Canada is like the same price as the HX750 on NCIX so might as well get the 850 and give more headroom for futureproof

Any opinions on processor or going i5 / 1156 ?

The leaks that have been coming out are suggesting that the real-world gap isn't nearly that large, actually. Synthetic benches, especially those that benefit from HT and triple-channel memory, sure. But that doesn't seem to be translating into anything earth-shaking. Nevermind the i5's lower power consumption, and the need for only two sticks of memory. If the OP has the patience to wait a little longer until release (and until the initial price-gouging dies down), they could save a decent chunk of money and give up very little performance.

i5 and i7 are the same die, but for two small differences:

i7 has more pins, used for the tripple channel memory that i5 lacks.
i5 has a built in northbridge, that the i7 lacks.

Other then that, clock for clock they should be the same. Small variations will show up, yes. For example, having the northbridge on-die will lower PCIe latency. Will this have real world (working) results? Probably no more then triple channel memory does

I thought i5s were 6 cores (not 100% sure) and lacked hyper threading (this i know)

Looks pretty solid to me. Mine is very similar though I went with Mushkins vice the Corsairs, you can't go too wrong with Corsairs.

Yes, the price on the HX850 from CanadaDirect is awesome, get one for sure.

I got a D0 because I want to OC to 3.8 or maybe 4.0 if the cooler is up to the task.

I picked up the Hyper 212 Plus and a couple of Scythe Slip Stream 1900 rpms pushing 110 CFM.. they will be mounted in push/pull.

Cases are personal, get what you like and don't let anyone tell you different :) really, some case companies are better than others though, so reviews are your friend.
