Default MacAttack

This is my latest build that I'm thinking of doing. I've been wanting to do a "Hackintosh" for a while but I've never wanted to fiddle around with OS X (for legal purposes), so when I found out about EFIX I thought, why not.

Here are the goals for this build:
1) Must be able to dual boot Windows and a retail copy of OS X
2) Must be able to handle decent video editing / sound work + light gaming
3) Must have a lot of storage space for vidoes and music
4) Motherboard and Graphics card must be compatible (mobo, gpu)
The budget for this build is under $1500.

Because I'm buying a retail copy of OS X (and not making any changes to it), I don't think there is any legal issues. If there are I apologize and feel free to close this thread. Also, I want your advice on the parts, not whether or not OS X greater or less than Windows / Linux / Your own OS / anything else.

Hardware:
Case: Coolermaster cm 690 $85.81
Powersupply: Corsair VX550W 550W $114.99
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-UD3L $102.25
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 $280.78
CPU Fan: Xigmatek HDT-S1283 $46.28
RAM: Corsair XMS2 DHX TWIN2X4096 $77.77
GPU: EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GT $124.99
Harddrives: Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB $89.99
2x Corsair Storage Solutions X32 32GB Indilinx $319.98
DVD: Samsung SH-S223B $32.10

Parts after taxes: $1,385.33
Other costs: $129 for OS X
Total cost: $1514.33

The SSDs are obviously for the OS's with the 1 TB drive for data. What are your thoughts on this build? Do I need anything else? What should I change?

Hrmmmm....

I was going to question the ability to install stock OS-X on non Apple-Branded hardware, but it looks like that EFIX thingy is supposed to fix that up. How much research have you done on it?

A fair amount. A few well known blogs have done various pieces on it including different settings you need to run it. The reason I went this way instead of your normal Hackintosh is because I wanted a legitimate build and I want to be able to update without breaking the install.

Well, HWC doesnt have alot of Mac people running around I'm afraid. You'd probably be the SME (Subject Matter Expert) if you tried this out. The only thing I would change is that power supply. Grab a Corsair TX750w. You can regularly get them for <100 bucks after MIR, and they rock.

Oh! And dont forget to pricematch with the link at the top! (Price Compare). You should be able to save some more cash!

Other then that, the parts look fine, assuming the 98gt will be identified by OSX, which from my (VERY) limited understanding of Hackintosh, is the hardest part to deal with. Now, with MYSELF, trial by fire is my favorite way to do things. Id recommend getting a build log going. You'll be helping out the HWC community, and maybe you can teach us some tricks

As long as you chose parts from the compatibility list I'd say you're good to go. Looks good.

Personally, I think if you're buying the OS, you should damn well be able to run it on whatever you want, despite what they think.

I have run OS X on PCs.. but never used the EFIX thingy you mention. So far I have only ever used PC EFI and Chameleon so I am not sure how much help I can be.
