Default AM3 or Core 2 Quad, there is the question...

I'm about to built a computer for gaming. I still don't know if I should go AMD (AM3) or Intel (Core 2 Quad). Here are two computer I built from DirectCanada. I know the Core 2 Quad is a faster CPU BUT with the AMD I will be able to upgrade the CPU in the future. Also the AMD motherboard as two PCIe X16 that support full X16 with two card as with the Intel board, it goes 8X when two card inserted (does it make a big difference???). I think I prefer the Core 2 Quad. I expect the computer to last 2 years (I will buy a second HD 4890 when needed). What do you think. (I already have a case)

AMD built:

AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition Triple Core Processor AM3 2.8GHZ 7.5MB Cache 95W 45NM Retail Box

If you can spend another $200, you can have an i7 using Gigabyte X58 UD3R mobo.

Caviar Green drives are awful for OS drives. Get a Seagate 7200.10 or Caviar Blue/Black as the OS drive and have Caviar Greens for storage.

7200.10 are like 2 years old they don't exist anymore, now we are in 7200.12 but go with western 640, he is the one of the fasted HD on the market and can be found at good price. For my part I prefer the AMD build because Q8400have not enough memory cache to be concider as a good quad and now the AM3 socket is much more futureproff according that LGA775 is on the last parade. If you want a better CPU for gaming look at this one
NCIX.com - Buy Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Dual Core Processor LGA775 3.0GHZ Wolfdale 1333FSB 6MB Retail - BX80570E8400 In Canada.
Will outstand the Q8400 with no problem.
That's pretty all.

I vote AM3, and for switching out the OS drive to something like a 500GB 7200.12 (Single platter baby), OH! And chances are you can PM some G.Skill DDR3-1600 Tridents for around $80-ish....wait, this is getting a little too close to one of the potential builds I'm dreaming up *disappears in a puff of smoke to protect his secrets*

I think it will look something like this. It's been a while since I built a computer (my last was a Asus A7N8X Deluxe with Atlhon 2600 and an ATI 9800SE...). I can't wait to order it. Anyway, I"m open to other suggestion on this built.

IMO, Corsair is better than G. Skill, but personally with the 2 choices I'd choose G. Skill. I don't think the XMS3's are very good. The G. Skills are lower latencies. As for the power supplies, if you plan to CrossFire then maybe you could keep it, or maybe something lower like a 700W. It will be overkill and pretty much a waste of money if you don't CrossFire.

This psu is a little cheaper Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 140MM Fan - DirectCanada . The G.Skill ram have a lower Cl that would be the better.

TX 750 with an MIR NCIX.com - Buy Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 140MM Fan - CMPSU-750TX In Canada.
