First build ever (computer noob)

So yeah, I am pretty much the average noob who probably is spending a lot of unnecessary money on the new computer I am purchasing. So anyway, I game a lot and I have decided to spend a lot of money on a new computer, so I will write everything I am purchasing here and hopefully you guys can see if I am making a huge mistake somewhere!

One specific question. The Quad Processor I am purchasing, is it any good? I am really not familiar with processors these days.

That is pretty much going to be the stuff I purchase. I excluded a couple of minor things not gaming related such as a dvd burner and random stuff. I play games on a 24" monitor. If anyone has any other reccomendations, feel free to let me know.

I have that case, love it!

Really need 12GB ram? Why not go with 6GB, and get faster DDR3-1600 ram? It's always easier to run 3 sticks rather than 6 sticks, it will clock faster and run tighter timings.

The CPU is fine. There isn't much to choose from in that newest socket, and unless you have money to burn, it is the one you want. Just be sure to get the DO stepping, it is the latest version with few improvements and capable to run faster clock speeds than previously. For the most part, NCIX is the only outlet that states the stepping of the CPU.

If you list your prices, folks here can help you find better deals. Or you can yourself, simply use the Price Compare link at the top of the page. Personally, I buy everything from NCIX, using their price match feature and finding the best prices wth Price Compare here.

I'd ditch the p6t deluxe and go for the plain jane p6t,saves you around $120,without losing anything notable feature wise.And like Lith said 12 gigs is wasted unless you run 3dsmax or something else that can use it all.

I also look to change the HDD with a western because the seagate are making a wierd thiking noise when the head's are moving. In a silent rig it can be really frustrating.
For the rest it's really good. If you want to save some down the 295 to a 285 or 275, on a 24 inch you wont notice any difference...With the 275 game wont lagg at full setting it's only that you will have 100 FPS unless of 130. I'd sugest to get 1 285 or 275 and when game come bigger and faster, get another one.

Agreed with Martin, GTX 295 isn't worth it. Consider the other comments and you got a solid build.

Thanks a lot guys, I will look into changing those things that were mentioned.
I forgot to say, I will purchase all of this around the 10th of August, and I live in Norway, so the website I use to build my computer is Komplett.no - Nettbutikk for datautstyr, PC, bærbar PC, TV, foto, video og spill.

I am in Spain on holidays right now so this internet speed I have on this hotel is terrible, takes me about 5 minutes to just refresh this site, which is quite annoying. I will post an update on everything I plan on buying as soon as I get home, which is the first of August. If you guys have any more cool suggestions show no hesitation! I will read all of them. Like the others said. 6gb is plenty. Get a 275 instead of 295. And if you don't overclock a reg i7 920 will do ya.

I saw someone selling processor blocks in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread and just assumed he meant "boxed" as in new... but apparently I am quite wrong. What's that mean?

Boxed means it comes in the retail box with heatsink, manual, case badge and other wasteful things are included.

The other way its OEM where you just get the CPU itself and nothing more. Typically these are cheaper too.
