Really depends on what your using the system for as each fall into different categories.
Is it for web surfing/office use
Is it for low end gaming
Is it for high end gaming
Is it for low end folding
Is it for high end folding

Best bang for the buck is all relative to what the system is going to be primarily used by those using it

Which then leads to what kind of gaming, video graphics settings (low, mid, mid-high, high, extreme), preferred resolution to run the games at.

As an example i typically have my games (current example is Fallout 3) at high graphics settings at 1920 x 1080 with the rig in my sig.

Why would that be a question? I'm just asking in terms of fps/$ regardless of settings.

Right now, since I've sold my old quad-core to buy my '79 z28, I'm on a 7950GT, with a 4200+. It's quite old, and is just squeaking by on low settings with newer games. I'd just like a newer system to play games with, but have the most value for my dollar sort of thing.

Well, I sold my 22", so I'm on a pitiful 19" 1440x900 screen.

There is no budget.

This system will overclock very well too if you invest in a good PSU for a little extra- if so, go for a cheap case without a PSU and buy a ~550w-650w corsair

EDIT: doesn't sound like this is in your snack bracket...

Very nice, however, isn't AMD king of the bang for the buck right now?
